I’d prefer to just buy one and plant it ? I’m not sure what they (Battle Lake Nusery)have year to year . I bought a Chestnut Crab & a Connell Red I think ? I thought they had Kerr, but I could be wrong. Either way I’ll try to locate one, somewhere. If you have a wild apple seedling in the ground for a few years and well established, you could top work it. I thought I saw a piece or two of scion if you wanted it. I would also check with Luke at Midwest Deer Trees. I thought he got some scion last spring.

Kerr must not be that desired in the "backyard orchard" community. Not a lot of places carry the variety.

Yep, I agree. Many of the big online sources don't carry it either. Stark Bros. - nope Burnt Ridge Nursery - nope SLN - nope One Green World - nope Orange Pippin - out of stock Maple Valley Orchard - scions and custom benchgraft, no trees for sale

Midwest Deer Trees just put his trees on sale. The website says he has 35 Kerr crabs. They will probably sell out fast.
He has also added a crab that is 3/4 mile from my home and still holding lots of fruit. He called it No Bull.
I shared some pictures with him for his website.
His facility is rural St Stephen, Mn.
I suspect that if you pick up trees, you will get larger trees than those that are shipped.

I checked one of my Kerr grafts from last year earlier this morning. It's about 4' tall. Seems to be a good grower. It does have some CAR spots though. I need to get my trees sprayed with Eagle/Immunox next spring. Just got done mowing both orchards. I looked at a Kerr graft growing next to Smitty's a few times. The Kerr is full of CAR. Smitty's isn't. I wonder if being young makes a tree more susceptible? This year Kerr has very few CAR spots. Probably a testament to the lack of rain this spring. Kerr is a good grower on antonovka. The graft from '21 will be above the 5' cement wire cage in a few weeks. From most of the online descriptions I've read, I'm thinking it won't be one of my favorites for fresh eating.

I have been reading up on it, sounds like a perfect size apple for deer!

I have been reading up on it, sounds like a perfect size apple for deer! Once does teach their fawns that apples/crabapples/pears are good chow, it won't matter how big or small the fruit is. I remember watching young bucks eat windfall Macintosh at the old place. It was fun to watch them spin the fruit around in their mouths and take multiple bites.

I had problems with fruit cracking on the tree with Wickson. Then the tree broke off(some dumb bunny injured it with roundup as a young tree).
Wickson was ok, but there are better choices.

From what I've heard/read about Wickson, it doesn't sound like it will be my kind of apple for fresh eating. Probably good in a cider mix though. One reason I wanted a Wickson was to find out how it looks compared to my not Whitney tree. I've wondered if that tree may have been mislabeled as a Wickson. If it isn't a Wickson, I have no idea what it is
