My Kerr crab is just starting to drop apples. Maybe 5-10 % are falling. Chestnut crab is 95 % done dropping. This seems like a good pair for the bow hunter. They taste pretty good also. Quite a few will be headed for cider .

I have two apples on wickson and it is still holding. Also my golden hornet is holding one fruit. I pulled the other one off and sampled it.

How did the Golden Hornet taste and how big was it? I have one fruit on my GH tree, I thought I had snipped all the blossoms off but I apparently missed one. The fruit on mine is quite small, maybe as big around as a nickel.

My Wickson is starting to drop, I probably have 20+ apples on it but several have fallen. At the same time we have had allot of wind lately. This tree is on B118 and is a great grower and very healthy tree. I have read different opinions on cold hardyness, cummins claim zone 3 while others are zone 5.

I had a few apples last year and they were just ok. My tree is also on B118, but suffered some roundup burn.

They are somewhat tart but not an exceptionally good eating apple. I bought it as a cider apple and I think they would be a good deer apple as they appear to be disease free and a strong grower.
I like the tree as it has grown very well out-pacing everything I purchased that year from cummins. The trunk on my tree is 20% larger than any other tree from that group.
I know that's not a great description but I am not an educated apple grower.

I'm bummed. At the end of the year here, my Kerr graft from this spring had all the leaves turn brown and fall off. I'll treat it like it's still alive and hope next spring that it will wake up!

What's kind of "funny" is that the fruit on my GH looks an awful lot like several wild crabs growing in the area. A guy may just be better off grafting local wild crabs for pollination purposes.

Kerr looks like a good option for us "bow" guys.

Scratch the bark up at the top and see if you have any green. The tips weren't bent over like candy canes? Right?

There's a commercial orchard (Farnum Hill) about 45 minutes south of my land that uses Wickson in their ciders. They were voted top 10 hard ciders by Food and Wine magazine. They're in zone 4B.

I have said before I love how my Kerr trees have grown. They will probably be the only tree I buy going forward. Well they are also the first tree to give me fruit. 3rd leaf and I got three apples. I tried one last weekend and it wasn't bad and still rock hard. I left the last two to see how long they hang. Most of my native trees are bare already so this could fill a great spot.

I will try and get some pictures tomorrow, but kerr is holding a fair amount of crabs. They are almost black in color. Haralred is now dropping (about 50%) and it's flavor has improved after two frosts.
