It's melting. Thank the Lord. What are you planning to do first? Here's my list.
1. Get up there once most of the snow is gone but the ground is still frozen and work the saw; shooting lanes and bedding. 2. Once the ground is soft enough to dig, I'm going to plant 16 trees, a mix of crab and pear. 3. Probably should clean out and organize the GD shed. 4. Replace the shitty windows in the shabin with something with two panes. 5. Walk the place with my dozer guy making plans. If he ever decides he wants my money enough to show up.

Kooch Next weekend looks like 50 at my place, I might run up for the day Saturday and knock down as many popple as I can. Maybe it will help, the deer a little. once it warms up I'll plant Apple trees, willow cuttings, corn and beans. I'm also waiting on a dozer guy, I doubt he has been there so I'll call him to see what he says. Hopefully we have turned the corner on winter, I'm ready for spring.

First thing I'm gonna do? Go to deadwood to play poker and get shitfaced while that crap melts and the frost goes out.
1. Not plant any trees, that's for damn sure 2. Might do some more wiring in the garage 3. Get Biff II rattle canned and placed 4. Maybe some recreational gypsum spreading on the road screen spruces 5. Probably get a dozen B118 or Antonovka rootstocks planted

I'm busy picking out options for the new home in April and when not doing that I hit the links. In May, we will consider what the weather is.....and make a plan to migrate northward after the ice melts in the lake. FORE!
This is a great time of year to live in the Northland......when you anticipate all the good things to do this coming summer....and all the fun you will have. Two weeks ago everyone up on the Tundra was hunkered down and just waiting for this moment.....ENJOY! YOU MADE IT!. Spring is at hand!

Ah yes. Looking to get my boat out so I can install the new graphs and trolling motor. Its buried behind a drift in the other garage. Then get that damn smoker going again since its been drifted in for too long. Sporting clays starts in 3 weeks... i hope. Plant my 8 apple trees I ordered from turkey creek. And fish! All spring and beyond. Nature will take care of the farm. Thats my new motto.

Scion has been shipped to five people. I need to pick up some scion from Stu on Tuesday and get some more pruning done.
Run up north today and shovel/ check roofs.
After snow melts, check deer flow up north and move two stands around for late October bow hunts.
Cut a few trees by one stand at home.
Move a few volunteer spruce around up north and bring a few home.
Graft apple trees.
Plant apple trees.
Fertilize apple trees.
Sign up for social security some time in there.

I’m going to start by getting some pruning done today. Might need my hip boots to get it done though. Then figure out where the hell I’m going to plant a couple of pears and 5 dolgos.

Kooch Good luck with the pears. Mine have been almost a complet bust. Still have a couple hanging on. If these are your first trees I would abort the pears. Zone 3 and pears don’t get along. Good luck. I still have 2’ a Of snow and this week is cold, I am running out of time to get up there to get my scion wood.

Find the sheds of my 1.5 year old bucks so I can test for CWD genetic resistance.
Watch empty sockets slowly grow into Boone and Crockett sized antlers.
Install my new Terrova/Hummingbird combo so I dont have to drive my boat when I fishdrink.
Bust 5 acres of ground open with my lightly used 1943 Farmall M to see if its enough to feed 23 adult deer.
Maybe plant some black buck, auodad or sika deer.

Two are "Cabot" and two are "Ely". What the hell, I'll replace whatever fails with something else in a year or two. The description on the website says the Cabot are ND hardy and the Ely is from scion harvested from a tree that's "been reported to be growing in Ely MN for 150 years." LOL We'll see about that. If they die, they die. When they do, I'll have cages all ready for whatever I put in to replace them.

Ever thought about adding a few pigs with the deer or do they require different fencing?

That tree is about 5 years old and doing well. I have another pear up there that is doing well too, but I can't remember if it was a Cabot or Clark. The rest of my pears up there died, so I'm planting more crabapples up there these days.

Ever thought about adding a few pigs with the deer or do they require different fencing? USDA gets super pissy about shooting pigs. Black buck is an antelope (goat?) so it can likely get scrapie but they would not be tested so I would not care. We ate scrapie infected sheep for thousands of years. Sika deer can likely get CWD as well and would need to be treated the same as whitetail deer for testing.

Why does the usda get picky about pigs? It seems pasture grown pigs are pretty popular with the foodie types these days. Couldn't you claim you are filling the pasture pig market?
