I wonder if that is a single wolf or a pack? I'm not sure of the timing but I know young males get kicked out of the pack on occasion and look for new territory.

The neighbor told me he heard some howling to the north one night, but that area is one big massive swamp and rugged cover-3600 acres of contiguous cover, would not surprise me if there is a pack up to my north.

They trapped wolves several years ago not far north of your place.
