So my yard ROD at the beginning of this thread is around 5-6 feet tall. Plan to use it for more cuttings instead of church harvest.
How early is too early for putting cuttings in the ground? I did them in early April before. It’s 57 and pouring rain today. No chance of frozen ground this year. But we will drop down to upper 20s some nights.
I’m thinking more time soaking up spring rains might help before the summer heat.

An article from last week’s Outdoor News says you should score the ROD and plant immediately.

I’ve got dogwood growing naturally. It’s creeping into my spruce which I don’t mind... here is a pic .

I just had FedEx drop off a box from Cold Stream Farm with 100 ROD seedlings. I wasn’t planning on planting this weekend. Oh well.

Those are great roots Honker!! Were those just cuttings put in the soil in your planter? Did you use any rooting hormone??
I was going to plant my ROD from Coldstream Farm tomorrow but, we had 3” of new snow so unless it warms up early I’ll just heal them in sone here and wait until next weekend.

No hormone or scoring, just cut and put into the planter.

I decided to hold off on the transplants for a few weeks still. Plenty of cuttings to slam into the ground first.
