Is all change automatically good? Can't the argument be made that resistance to any change is "greedy"? Why do today's youth need to be handed everything without putting in any work? Is this "trophy for everyone" mentality creating the type of young people we want developed? I'll support this change if the MNDNR can prove via longitudinal study that the youth season is bringing new hunters to the field and keeping those new hunters hunting for the long term. If they can't or don't, it is simply another bullshit move on the MNDNR's part to reduce the deer herd statewide and fuck up bowhunting. It does seem like window dressing on a giant deception. If they want to improve long term hunter recruitment they need to put out a better quality product/experience. In my opinion that means allot more older age class deer. Without a better experience most youth will probably get bored with mediocre quality hunting and eventually quit. My view is similar Jerry. Giving more opps is not the answer. Quality hunt is what brings kids back. My daughter hunted opening weekend 3 years with me and saw a total of 2 deer. Neither was remotely shootable. She has pretty much no interest now. She has a bow she enjoyed shooting but never felt interest in bowhunting. She is 18 now. Lots of stuff going on in her life now. Deer hunting isnt one. If she had at least seen some deer or even shot one i had a chance to keep her going. Now to her its.... eh i tried it. Increasing harvests will at some point tip populations the wrong way. Youth firearm is another way to tip populations the other way. So it will backfire on the dnrs plan to recruit eventually.

I bet they monitor it and aren't concerned about loss revenue as CWD will allow them to access the general fund.

I realize the emphasis is youth. However, Minnesota has no shortage of deer hunters. My area is overrun with hunters. I hunt Iowa and see 1/3 the hunters on much better ground.
I mean shit how many licenses are sold in Minnesota every year? It’s unbelievable.

Kinda funny they're plowing a 100 million/year into buying public hunting grounds given the public is slowly hanging up hunting. Couldn't we push light rail to Duluth or Rochester with those dollars?
On the bright side, gun season has started here. My neighbor across the road was target shooting his rifle most of the morning. The guy next to him shot one thursday night, and another tonight. The deer around me didn't show tonight.

To date I have never really put much effort into Muzzy but with an enclosed stand it might be worthwhile.

That would push hunter numbers further down for sure.

One of the big bucks got shot up by the property I sold in sebeka. Guess a 15 year old amish kid shot it.

Hunt over a giant turnip/rutabaga plot with a muzzy.

Nothing for my Son this weekend. My place just isn’t set up for a south wind. That may be part of it. Warm weather and strong winds from the south.
Onward.
