For you guys who purchased the visors for the Redneck Blinds did you buy one horizontal and two vertical sets for the each blind? Does that just leave the door without a blind? Seems like they would sell a complete kit per unit. I bought a set of three visors that all are the same size. Its actually blinds for a 5x5 gun box.....but I used one on my Crossever Blind window (same size) and put another on a similar size window on a wooden blind. I have another wooden blind that could use the remaining visor....but I have not gotten that far. I only use them on southwest facing windows.....about the only place really needed on my blinds.

I don't know if you really need them on the horizontal as I don't think it would keep snow or rain out due to length of windows. Funny you ask about the door. Yesterday after the snowstorm day before, the snow was the wet heavy stuff that froze after sagging below door on roof. It was quite noisy when I opened the door. Also after running heater all day icicles formed and again made a bunch of noise when I exited at end of day. Also the porch area just outside blind was iced up. I am going to email Redneck after hunting season to see if they could design an awning for over top of door to eliminate the problem.

I can see that happening, the overhang on the blinds are small and better suited for a lite sprinkle than heavy snow or rain. I had high winds and snow blowing into my shooting window and I was thinking it would be nice to have a smaller window to slide my gun barrel through. Nothing's ever perfect and I can see there will be shortcomings on every stand.

No icicles on my shadow hunters. They come with the drip things over the windows standard and the insulation voids the drips?

Hehegehe I have a Shadow hunter also, the outside windows/shutters were frozen shut. The roof drips on outside when you run heater when it has snow on roof. None of the blinds are perfect. I don't think they build any of them with Wisconsin or Minnesota weather in mind.

Tom you must be nice and toasty in your blind if your getting that much melting. :-) I would think you could attach some additional ceiling insulation if you wanted to. There are lots of insulation choices that would work.

One day when the wind was wrong for mine, I took a little visit to my neighbor's place during gun season, with his permission. His old stand has two sets of windows all around. The inside windows are from deerview, and they swing in. The outside windows are plexiglass or lexan homemade. They are on simple tracks and split in the middle. So, he just slides the outside window open enough for a shot when he needs to. It's a nifty setup and one I'll consider for any new blinds I build.
When I built my first one, I didn't put a lot of effort into the details. I was just excited to have an option to be out of the snow. I realize now, the small details make sitting all day that much more pleasant.

Fleet Farm getting rid of inventory. Does anyone have one of these? I have the 5 sided one. It is ok, not air tite, noisy, doesn't do well with snow loads, ask Brad about that. Not very warm, had to run heater on high to stay warm. Nothing close to Redneck or Shadow Hunter.

I have one similar. Like Tom said, noisy, doesn't seal well, put a post under center to support roof for winter or snow WILL cave it in. Never again will I buy one of those cheap POS.

I don't have that one. I've got a "Booner" 4x4. It's not quiet. But it sheds snow pretty well and feels darn solid to me. The door is warped so it doesn't seal perfectly. It's only been up through one Winter, going on second now. But it seems damn sturdy to me. And it's small enough that it's warm with just a small heater running at 3K BTU.
I have another one that's not assembled yet. This Spring/Summer I'll either use it to build a new outhouse, or put it on a base with skids so I can drag it around the property.

The recent winds decided I needed to upgrade my current hunting blinds....they was never built to handle 60+ mph winds and well.....it shows! I mean I know my carpentry skills are not the best....but. It was a little disheartening. At least it was shooting houses and not the house or barns or the like. Wind was so strong it pushed the battle wagon off the support/leveling blocks and then pushed it roughly 15 feet! You can see where the blocks are and where it ended up!

The wind sure did a number on that top stand - that sucks! Did you have them anchored to the ground with anything?
