Things are not looking good at my place in se mn. I think i had pictures of 6 bucks this year I thought were 3.5+ years old and i think only one has survived. And we have stupid bonus cwd late season shotgun seasons the next two weekends that are likely followed by more January seasons. Unlimited bucks and does can be killed for $2.50 per tag. That's in addition to the regular 3 buck per year limit in the cwd zones. Late season shotgun hunts? Do you have a link for this? I know the Jan hunts are a thing but I never heard of anything other than the 2 shotgun seasons

Your area is no longer part of the goal setting process. Too many deer. Forever.

Have you talked with your neighbors since these latest hunts have been announced? What's the pulse down there on faith in the cull?

Damn that sucks. I feel very guilty right now for criticizing KS's plan to get every NR hunter in the country a 120. It's almost like they hate you guys.

Wildlife just get in the way of progress. Despite having the mission to preserve wild life and wild places, they have become the instrument to eliminate it in the name of progress. I think it all went downhill when Governor Pawlenty (R-MN) ordered the formation of a committee to extract the highest economic value from state lands in 2003. Timber interests rolled in and populated that world and used the DNR to get us to where we are today. I think the rest of the economic interests saw a model unfolding that they could adapt to meet their needs for very few $$ invested in politicians.

Have you talked with your neighbors since these latest hunts have been announced? What's the pulse down there on faith in the cull? It isn't looking too good in my specific neighborhood. Nobody likes these extra seasons the DNR is giving us along with the relaxed APR's, cross tagging, etc., but there is definitely more hunting pressure now that people can legally hunt every season and kill a buck in each. In our area more bucks are definitely getting killed, but I don't know if there is added pressure on the does or not. My gut feel is that I don't think we will see a dramatic decrease in deer numbers since access to private land is still the limiting factor, but I believe all these extra seasons will cut the buck numbers and age pretty quickly.

That's in addition to the regular 3 buck per year limit in the cwd zones. It will be interesting to see what happens to SE MN. Hunters in WI's CWD zone whacked a bunch of extra bucks for a couple years...then it seemed most had their fill of gluttony and eased up. The buck hunting in my old part of Dane County, WI when I left in '12 was as good as it had ever been. Central and East Central Minnesota deer hunters seem "different" than hunters there. Maybe SE MN deer hunters will be more similar to WI's CWD zone hunters. The hunting down here has been really good since the APR's were added and I'm hoping that most hunters will be sensible and not go overboard. Most hunters remember how the hunting was before those rules were added and do not want the hunting to return to those days. I'm a little concerned though that these liberal regulations will allow the one game hog in every neighborhood to legally go overboard and screw things up in that immediate area.
