A guy asked me today if statewide rifles is on the agenda? I said I don’t think so ? Anyone hear that? East Ottertail MN Deer Hunter Board member told me MNDHA is pushing statewide buck tag again. I thought you could shoot a buck anywhere in the state already, with the exception being that you could only hunt either the 1st or 2nd gun seasons in SE MN?

One license for archery, rifle and muzzleloader rather than buying each separately

One license for archery, rifle and muzzleloader rather than buying each separately lol, like the MNDNR would ever go for that. Maybe if the cost was the same as what the three currently cost

Seriously my friend said they are in favor of it since they think it will bring more revenue into the DNR.

Seriously my friend said they are in favor of it since they think it will bring more revenue into the DNR. Then they must be talking about jacking the price up to $105 or so

Alexandria was full of guys (24-40 what I heard) concerned about CWD and there are too many deer.
Conflicting stories from Moorhead. Either 1 or zero showed up.
Word is the remote St Paul meeting had zero participation.

Word is the remote St Paul meeting had zero participation. I didn't go to Alex, should have. I am not sure we have way too many deer, but there are a lot of casual comments by people that there are a lot of deer around. Our deer collisions for our insurance agency are up. When I am in Otter Tail County, I do hear some complaints of ridiculous deer numbers....Depends on what part of the county, but I have to admit there are some areas that have too many deer in OTC.
*Still hope they don't raise the doe tags however! 3 is plenty

Word is the remote St Paul meeting had zero participation. There are a number of folks locally who literally "feed their families" with venison. I know of one group of 6 families (all kin) who have invested pretty heavily in walk in coolers and meat processing equipment. If they eat meat...it's venison. They are making some sausage products that's better than anything I've had from a commercial processor. They will not process anybody else's deer...only theirs. They hunt based on poundage. When they have pounds, they stop hunting. I don't know how many deer they shot last year, but it was a whole fucking bunch. I'd bet there's a whole bunch more families just like that in this general area. If CWD shows up, folks like that ^^^ may have to start buying meat. They aren't excited about that possibility

What I heard was rifles all over the state for deer hunting? I'd be in favor of that. My old place was slug only until a few years before I moved up here. When I left it was full blown suburbia, and there have been no issues with stray bullets that I'm aware of. I don't think it would do much to increase the number of deer killed, but it could increase the number of deer registered as being killed. Less wounding, better recovery rates IMO

When my familys red river lands went from shotgun to rifle they killed some giants. For a few years... Ya, here in the land of 4 elevated, heated hunting shacks per 40 acre parcel...maybe it would destroy the herd. I don't know. If they're gonna do it, I'd like to know about it relatively soon. Still thinking I'm gonna pick up a Savage 220 before season assuming MN doesn't go to rifles statewide.

Maybe if the cost was the same as what the three currently cost I believe that used to be called the "All-season" license. I had bought that once I think, otherwise, I believe you were bound to your zone, of which there were 4 back then. This would put a ton of cash back in my pocket and extend my season. I don't quite understand the barrier of an extra $32 to get into an extra weapon season though. For all a guy has invested in a place, why shut it down early over that little bit of money? Anyway, the agencies have money lined up to rain down from, not only the state, but also the feds. They don't need license revenue to hit their dollar goals. Coin flip, I think they'd take the extra deer harvested and go for supplemental funding in the name of CWD. That TRCP tweet I posted this morning was crowing about federal dollars in legislation to go to fight the survival of deer.
