So what happened to the LSU guy? Is his cure ready? The last I heard he had resigned from LSU. All of the mainstream scientists went out of their way to discredit him.

So what happened to the LSU guy? Is his cure ready? Haven't heard a peep. Last I knew he was searching for $300k to finish his project. The major orgs and state game controllers all threw cold water on him and he vanished from the discussion.

I believe they can manage the statewide herd 100% without hunters. We're not there yet, and we're not ready. But if they keep stoking the CWD, economic loss, landscaping damage fire, the people will demand the herd destroyed, even the vegan disney kids. "We could get human CWD!" I don't believe that is likely. At least not without a complete change within the MNDNR philosophy. It would also require a huge addition of man power and a new source of revenue. I guess it's possible, but I really doubt it happens in any of our lifetimes. There's a debate going on in my city right now. We happen to be an extremely wealthy city (thanks to 2% city sales tax paid by everyone within 100+ miles that shops here), so we argue about really silly stuff. They studied the city taking on tree trimming responsibility along sidewalks in a 20 block square. They discovered it would cost the city about six million dollars and we simply didn't have the space, tools, and people in place to take it on. The city's position is to keep the responsibility on homeowners. Some will do it themselves, some will hire it done, but it will get done. If the state gets creative, they just need to allow or leverage willing people (cops, growers, angry citizens, greens keepers, white buffalo) to remedy their own situation. I don't see a need to hire a single person. Where you need the expensive guys they'll need to write a check. Other places, a good rifle will put a fresh one in the manure spreader about every day. I used to know a guy up north (long dead now) that said he regularly shot at* (I never saw it) bald eagles. They kept eating his ducks. Never asked for agency help. I always hope I'm wrong. This is no different.

The state of WI attempted to eradicate the deer herd in a relatively small area back around '02. They allowed unlimited harvest by hunters and also had hired government sharpshooters sitting over piles of corn at night.
They couldn't do it.

The trend of bulldozing out habitat is still penciling out too. When I was home last, I discovered a guy about a mile from my dad bulldozed out a woods that was maybe a ten acre island in his corn field. That got flattened and root raked, and was covered in corn stalks now. Win win.

I don't think it'd work everywhere, especially if there aren't enough angry citizens. I think it'd work fine in open ag country though. That's the heart of the soybean and corn problem.

It was in southwest Dane County, near Mt. Horeb. Mixed ag, woodlot, suburbia. edit...a year or two later they tried another "eradication zone" near Beloit, just north of the IL border. That area is also mixed ag, woodlot, suburbia. It too was unsuccessful (obviously) Your outlined area includes some very different areas. I'd agree that most of that area is relatively uniform, but I'd drop your line to south of Willmar then up towards Fargo.

I can name one or two for Ohio.
We are a one buck state. There have been counties where you could have killed 4 antlerless in the past. I think it’s now 2 in most of those counties. They also limit doe harvest on public land. It might only apply to non residents. I’m not sure of the rules because I’m a resident and I don’t deer hunt public.
Ohio has less deer than 10 years ago but the state has taken their foot off the throttle a little bit.

They found a case east of Columbus a year or two ago. I think there is mandatory testing for a couple of counties. It’s a few hour drive from me.
They are not trying to exterminate deer in that area.

The public land rules that are new listed below. Either sex for archery and gun season. After the week of gun, it’s buck only on public. This affects the following 2 day gun season, muzzy and late archery.
Good rules in my opinion.
A lot of people bitch about less deer but Ohio is nowhere close to the MN slaughter. We still have it pretty good.
DEER HUNTING ON PUBLIC LAND No more than one antlerless deer may be taken from all public hunting areas per license year. A list of public hunting areas is available at wildohio.gov. Au- thorized Division of Wildlife controlled hunts are exempt.
From Sept. 28, 2019 to Dec. 8, 2019, ant- lered or antlerless deer may be taken from specific public hunting areas in Ohio.
From Dec. 9, 2019 to Feb. 2, 2020, only antlered deer may be taken from spe- cific public hunting areas in Ohio

Interesting how different states deal with CWD. I think it's clear that MN is wasting a ton of money on things that will have zero impact on the disease or on helping hunters feel better about the venison they are consuming.

I don’t hunt public land but wish they’d have restrictions on it so it’s no a shit show for the sake of the public land hunter. It would be tough to enforce though.
