Looks great Brad, that should get the job done. How much does it way? Can you feel it back there or is it pretty light? My rear tires are filled so it doesn't feel like much. I'm gonna guess it weighs 400-500 lbs.

please tell me it has meters and not the old style 7000 row units that still had plates.... Meters and finger pick up. Sweet!
I had a customer call me up and said he found a 4 row 7000 JD planter for $1000 about 20 miles from my place. I thought shit, how did I miss that. He said he would run it by and have me show him how to run it. He stopped by and I took one look and said get your money back if you can. You bought a plate planter not a finger planter. And to make things worse, he got no plates with it. He never even looked in the boxes to see what he had. LOL.

Wow. I paid 1400 for this 2 row. I didn't want a pos that was cheaper. Dude had 5 other ones sitting there he knows what he is doing and I'm don't want to fuck with shit. I did not get the bean meters. Plan on broadcast and pack yet.

What do you guys think about those closing wheels in heavy clay. With they skip? .should I get the sproket ones from. Yetter M I just have a rubber press wheel on the back of my JD 71 planter. It seems to close very well for me......but I have pretty sandy soils. They do offer a chain drag to go behind the press wheel and that may offer some kind of solution in some soils. Dunno. Not sure what Yetter offers as an alternative??......are you thinking a steel wheel? There is quite a bit of down-force on my rubber press wheels.....but in clay soils it can be difficult to close that seed trench. Thus the need for a good system. At one time I developed adjustable Rubber Press Wheels that would press on either side of the disk openers in order to facilitate closing that seed trench. Made it as an attachment for the IH air planters of the day....back in the late 70's or so. It was called EZ Depth.....and they sold quite a few of 'em as IH needed SOMETHING to compete with the JD "Max-emerge" wheels that basically did this same task. The Max Emerge system to close that seed trench was somewhat of a breakthrough in those times. I worked really hard on developing that EZ Depth product into a super operating attachment.....and it was easy to install and did a good job. I had earned some huge sales that were gonna really pay off in the following Spring.....when the owner of the company sold it to some other investors.....and I was out of a job. (Bastard). One of the many biz deals that went south for me.......lol. Another lesson learnt. After that experience......I decided "to hell" with farm stuff. They all seemed like bandits. Grin.

Something like this maybe foggy ? I'm sure closing wheels are fine in favorable soils but what about my heavy heavy clay I have no clue. Just some.local guy told me to consider them but he has been wrong about other things in the past.

Clay fills in all the notches and they end up round after a while just like a regular closing wheel. And at $200 a row, no way.

How is that set up to change population?

I went back to look at the pics of the planter you bought. I had thought you bought a jd 71 planter.....but no. That set up with closing the seed trench is far better than the JD 71 planters. It has the "max-emerge" press wheels tech I spoke of above (I think)......and that was / is a pretty good set-up. I'm out of date.....so my advice is not worth much. Good luck....Ithink you will do fine with that set up.

How is that set up to change population? You can't unless I get different spokets. It's set for 28k at 30" rows. I can adjust this planter from 38" -30".
