What do you guys think is a fair price for a JD 2 row. I know of old 290s that parts will probably be hard to find for. I'm not that good at rigging stuff so I want something that will be fairly reliable and I don't have to mess with much. Saw a few out there. JD 7000 which the guy build off an 8 row. Been gone through and he does several a year. Could get for $1400 cash. Has corn meters. Bean plates and meter extra but not sure I need those. No markers or dry fertilizer boxes. Very nice fully mounted jd 2 row planter. Finger pick up corn meters plant any size corn seed. Ground driven, double disc openers. Adjustable depth wheel settings Adjustable drive wheel. Soybean meters or cups available for extra cost. Excellent little planter Handy food plot tool What do you guys think?

Or I see this one. A long drive. But a littl cheaper. But time is worth money too. This one has the bean plates includes. They want 1150. I'm not excited about 7-8 hour road trip round trip for this one to be honest.

LOL Not really, with your tractor and acreage (5 right) maybe an old 4 row like below but even those seem to be in same price range wausau.craigslist.org/grd/d/merrill-ih-56-4-row-corn-planter/7083618794.htmlFor my acre or two i think i would just broadcast and then till in lighty and hope for best.

I'm don't think my tractor could pull a 4 row. Also I would rather have a more compact planter that is 3 point is easy to throw on a trailer and move. Yes about 5 acres. This year would only be about 1.3 acre unless I do 4 rows around the outside of the big plot which I am actually thinking about. If you take care of those JD planters and put in the shed I would think you will always get your money back out of them.

Throw and meow into rye? Might help cure your wet spring as well? Cat, I want to do this right. Also plots are fine dryness wise now for the most part with the dozer work and ditching. I'll broadcast beans because beans grow different if they are over or under seeded and fill in the gaps. Overseeding corn is a real concern for me. I just want low stress in a planter than I know will turn out great.

I bought a 4 row JD 494 pull style a few years back for $450 I believe. It seems like you can find them in the $400-$800 range fairly easily. I've never used it yet, but I might try it this year since I'll probably plant corn on about 10 acres. It has a plate style seed pick up and I have no idea if you can even buy the specific seed size/shapes that a planter like that may need. I guess I'll find out.
I think one of those 3 point models that had either 2 or 3 rows would be nice - especially if they were no-till. Having a fertilizer box would be a bonus as well.

Show me a field ready 2 row 3 point for $400-$800 I've seen 4 rows go for 400-800 locally but I don't see anything out there that is decent in 2 rows.

Most of the decent 2 rows I've seen have been in the price range you reference. The cheaper versions are old relics that look like they would be full of issues.
The pull behind 4 rows like I have are cheaper since I think the 3 point hitch 2 rows are much more popular with food plotters.

I doubt your going to find a 3pt 2 row for under 1K. Just way 2 popular for plotters. If your worried about pulling a 4 row you could cut it down to a 2 row.
