I would rather go 0-3 today than when the season opens. Any chance your neighbors got ag damage bear kill tags? You can look on the DNR's website to see who was issued them in your county. That pisses me off more than anything when we finally draw a tag on my land and the DNR traps them or my neighbors shoot them on ag tags before the season opener. If you don't have big ag fields nearby I doubt that is an issue for you though. Depends what you mean by close. I’m about a mile away from big corn fields. And I agree I would rather be skunked now. You just gotta figure it’s gonna be even tougher to consistently get a bear in a week from now but you never know

A mile is not very far for a hungry bear.

Between acorns dropping, ripe corn, and baits it’s tough to say but, don’t give up. It’ll be a good time with you and your son regardless. Keep the faith!!

Bears just don’t hit baits this time of year as much. My good friend in prime bear country has seen a huge drop off as well past few days. It is what it is.

Should you be scouting for oak flats and acorns? Find a lot of acorns and do a spot and stalk when season opens.

This sudden cool down has caused a change in their feeding habits. The bred sows are starting to go in their dens already.

Well that was interesting. First sight of a bear in quite some time. Sow and cubs just walked up on me while I was on the bait.

2 big ones on same bait. For some reason the pics didn't load. Will have to wait until I get back to cabin to load them.
