I made my third batch of cider today and had about a half dozen varieties of apples in it. The best cider is at least 40% chestnut crab in my view.

My buddy is going to be making hard cider or something like that next weekend. I lend him my grinder to help with the project.

I learned some very valuable lessons with cider last night. -it takes longer than one would think, a busy weeknight isn’t a smart time to try your first batch -don’t do it in your shed -don’t try to pour into ziplocks on your own -try to do it all in one shot so you don’t have to clean things twice. Had fun out there last night learning how to do everything. Art, I almost had to call and ask about the grinder before I realized I needed to put more than 3-4 apples in there before it started spitting out. A couple of pictures This is what I have left for round two

I am glad it worked for you. Yup, it takes lots of time. We have a little plastic device to hold ziplocks. If you balance the bag in perfectly, you can fill the bag alone. I can’t find it right now.

Some people like cinnamon in their apple cider.
I have decided to get some Fireball whiskey and give it a try. Has anyone done that?

i made the last batch of cider for the year. About 10-12 gallons. Kerr, Frostbite, and a bit of Wickson. I have started freezing the apples when I don’t have enough to justify getting the press out. I had about 2 five gallon pails of frozen apples. They go in the yellow tub of water and tend to thaw by half way through the pressing.

My buddy is going to be making hard cider or something like that next weekend. I lend him my grinder to help with the project. At first, I tried killing the natural yeast and adding specific yeasts. I didn’t really know what I was doing and still don’t. I am not sure if I want to get into the chemistry of making hard cider, but want to KISS. For now, making the cider and putting in the fridge for two weeks has seemed to work well. Wild yeast seems to work for me on the batch from mid September and we will see what this batch brings.

We celebrate Birdies on the golf course with a shot of Birdie Juice.....and sometimes we just have a shot because we can. FORE! Very smooth drink I might add.

How long can the cider last in the jug if put in the fridge?
