Once white clover gets laid flat after a hard frost, can it start growing again if we get a warm spell, or is it done for the season?

Good question. I honestly don't know the answer but want to say it will grow anytime temps are good for a couple of days. Deer use my clover plots through the winter but there is always a mix of plants so it's hard to say they are using the white clover exclusively.

On my land over the past 11 years the clover goes dormant and never comes back until spring. That’s why winter rye and brassicas are important for me to see deer after the frosts start.

I've got a real life gypsum experiment going on again this year, and by total accident. I put a hot rate of gypsum (800 lbs/ac) on my spoils plot expansion. I only put 300 on the other stuff, and that was August of last year. That little expansion is gonna be gone in no time if they keep on it like they have. I still haven't gotten my gypsum down for this year on the rest. One of many chores that got pushed back in September.

Any of you up north guys get eyes on your white clover? Did it get zapped and lay down?

We had two frosts a couple weeks ago. Neither was hard, but it was cold enough to kill my pumpkin vines. My clover plots look awesome right now

What exactly is your experiment? Are you wondering if clover handles cold better if it has a lot of gypsum? Or if deer still seak it out after it lays flat from frost?

No, those are two different things. I think my new clover with heavy gypsum is gonna get completely wiped before they get going on the older stuff without gypsum. As far as frost goes, It's just early for weather this cold. Some years, I can make it damn near to late October before a real hard freeze gets to town. Last year, I had deer digging through December powder to get at clover and oats. I think it was mostly clover. Still haven't mastered how to get big oats through established clover. Gonna have to try ultra high seed rates next year and see what happens. There's got to be an answer out there, somewhere between zero, and a 2" layer of seed.

We had frost the past two days. We’re finally due for rain next week so I’ll be spreading winter rye this weekend. Hopefully the rain does come. My clovers been toast since July due to the drought.

After over a foot of snow, many lows in the 20s, and at least one single digit low....My clover has greened back up and is putting on new growth. Pretty crazy what a week of unseasonably warm temps will do.

Clover growth in November is quite a bonus. If the extended forecast is correct the deer should be in great shape heading into the winter.

Pretty crazy what a week of unseasonably warm temps will do. Took a walk in the woods with the granddaughters yesterday. Now, we were no where near as cold and snowy as the "up nort guys", but we did have over a week of overnight lows in the mid to low 20's and a few days in the teens, also around 3" of snow on the ground for about a week. Yesterday I saw new dandelions with flowers, new growth on shrubs that already dropped their leaves, and forbs sprouting new growth.

My clover in MN is still looking good......and I have lots of pics of deer feeding in the clover plots at night. Amazing for Nov 9th. Trying to decide if I should sit over the clover or corn tonight.

I sat on my field plot tonight. BFOs, clover, brassica, WR, etc. They keep it nice and trimmed. Had over 10 in it tonight. Just not one to shoot.
