Will the youth hunt and the adult early antlerless seasons reduce pressure during the firearm hunt?
Will these seasons reduce buck kill during the next few weeks of bow season due to educating of bucks?

Will these seasons reduce buck kill during the next few weeks of bow season due to educating of bucks? I don't know, but I'm glad I don't have that issue. It's like money. Mo money, mo problems. No bucks, no problems. That is the scourge of high expectations.

I have not seen as much hunting by youth as I expected during this season. I wonder if some have shifted west into Stu’s zone where there is an early antlerless hunt for adults at the same time. Zero percent chance thats it. Who has random access to hunt anywhere they want? I say weather if anything. Havent seen Oct weather like this in a long time. But it aint that terrible bad.

I'm not into youth seasons, early seasons, or rifle in the rut. Variety of reasons but I suspect it boils down to my views of age structure in the herd and the lack of cover here.

My thoughts exactly. My daughter does hunt youth turkey season most years. But most of the time she gets her bird during the regular season. She has never hunted youth deer because she has no desire to shoot a deer with a gun. Must be genetic.

I don’t feel any guilt about letting my son take part in a legally offered season, but this is the first time he has done it. It is all relative to the opportunities you have, area you hunt in, and other things competing for their personal time. We hadn’t done any of the youth seasons before, but with the Covid BS taking away so many other aspects of his life, I saw it as an opportunity to better his chance at something positive in his life right now. Glad he did it.
I can see why it would be looked down upon in certain areas or circumstances though and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I honestly feel the same way about watching waterfowlers in southern states hammer ducks in their wintering grounds while we were fortunate to get a good hunt or two in the Northern states based on the weather. As long as they are eating what they kill though, more power to them.

I have seen more problems with the adults during early doe seasons than the kids getting their own weekend.

When I was a kid, we had a week long shotgun season for deer. Back then a week was 6 days due to no Sunday hunting. If my dad had to work that Saturday, no deer season. A youth season would have been nice but we didn’t have it either.
Now we have a full week of shot gun. Plus a bonus weekend 2 weeks later. Plus a youth weekend before the gun opener. Add in a 3-4 day late muzzleloader and I think that is plenty of gun time for our deer.
If you the state gives it to you, hunt it. I’m more against rifles and early doe killing. Some people are against the long bow season that we have in Ohio and I’d be pissed if they took it away.

I not against the people who use the youth seasons and whatnot, I just don't think they fit into management plans very well. Hell... my youngest shot a deer in youth season this year. It's legal and an opportunity that can be good. I hope no offense was taken.

I think the youth season has a time and place and kids should be out there if they want to hunt it. Statewide and over MEA I just don’t agree with it. There’s areas where the deer population is slim already. Maybe a first time hunter season? Either way it’s here to stay, and I’m sure the harvest will be high in many areas due to cold weather.

Some of us feel the youth season should not apply to 16 and 17 year olds. I agree, it will probably not change for years and probably a insignificant point.

Like I said everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I was just stating mine. It was a stand-alone statement, not in reply to anything previously said by anyone. All good here Cat.

I’d like to see mentor archery hunts. Experienced archers sitting with youth hunters in a high deer number refuge or state park. I would volunteer for that.

Where are these high deer density parks and refuges?
