I was just looking at soil temp for brassica germination. Looks like a lot of them will pop at around 40 degrees

I just ordered 5 lbs. of seed. Gonna try frost seeding a little bit, but will save most of them for a summer planting I think.

What soil temp does white clover germinate? Why does clover do so well with frost seeding while other seeds fail?

I'm liking what I am reading on those forage collards. Not sure if I should mix them with radish, PTT and DER?........or just a pure stand of the collards?? I may try both this season.
Feeling the urge to put a seed order together.

Steve B. used to recommend frost seeding (he still may) rape or other brassicas when you are looking for large amounts of summer forage, but don't have the ability/equipment to plant soybeans or other large seeded forage. I think frost seeding the collards is worth a shot.

Feeling the urge to put a seed order together. For a traditional summer planting of brassicas, I'm always partial to a mix. That's just a personal preference though, no real "scientific" reason to do it that way.

But when a mix contains three or four non-tuber brassica varieties, it's hard for me to tell the difference. For this reason alone I'm considering making my next brassica plot a segregated thing. "Here's my strip of Winfred. Here's my pasja section. This over here is my Red Stag New Zealand Buck Deluxe Mega Rack Kale. ..." I think it'd be a useful learning experience and worth the trouble.

I did that one year with 3 varieties of Rape. Could not distinguish much difference in those plantings.

Something I have always intended to do with the smaller seeds like brassica......where it's important to get the rates right......is to mix in some kittly litter as a way to get a good seed distribution and not get the seed too thick. I have gotten much better at seeding at proper rates......the the kitty litter may provide some forgiveness from applying too heavy.
With my Herd seeder now mounted on the front of my UTV......and getting the seed drop rates about cut in half with a small seed plate......I can now just drive around to seed my plots with brassica. The Kitty little may make a bit more driving and still better rate control. I wish I could think of something inert that was finer yet.

Too course, abrasive, and hard on my plastic spinner plate? Probably sand blast my UTV in front.

While I like the looks of your blower.....I much prefer driving my UTV to cast seeds over a few acres. I hate walking to apply seeds. If I could get seeds to grow on my sand without scratching them in.....I would use the blower in standing beans or corn. Unfortunately that does not work on my soils....tried it allot. I can apply seeds at a much faster / better rate than that blower of yours. My seeds need to be covered after broadcasting or blowing em onto the soil. Man did not raise to the top of the food chain blowing seed. I currently do any tillage.....broadcast my GHR (or any larger seeds)....drag.....broadcast brassica seeds.....cultipack. A few days later....I'm golden.
