^^^that's pretty interesting Tom. You must have got snow cover pretty early to protect the plants?
I think I'm going to frost seed some collards into my plots this week.

I was just checking for downed trees and looked at a spot where I frost seeded some collards earlier this spring. Lots of little brassica sprouts out there. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of them.

Turkeys had a good feed on my frost seeded seeds this year. In one plot they harrowed it up like hogs. There was a mixture of collards and Greencover’s spring release. I see nothing new growing.
I haven’t checked a small plot that I put collards only on and another that I put clover and collards. I’ll check next weekend. It’s been dry here but, we got a downpour this afternoon so maybe that’ll get stuff germinating.

I kill my turkeys before fall seeding and grind them into Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage. Shot 12 last fall.

Does anyone see any issue with planting collards around the 4th of July time frame? This would be my first time planting them. Normally we plant a brassica mix but after reading about them, decided to try them out in 2 food plots. We are located in south central Wisconsin specifically Sauk county.

Welcome to the forum There shouldn't be any inherent issues with a July 4th planting of forage collards. If you get rain, they'll take off.

Yup. There is a bunch here. I’ve learned everything I know from these forums going back to the old QDMA one. What part of Sauk county you in? We are by Lake Redstone.

Our land is about 10 miles south of Reedsburg. Pretty good hunting down there too I'd imagine. We had river bottom land for years in Juneau Co and just recently bought some in the Sauk Hills. Love the hills! Really good hunting compared to our river bottom place.
