Stu,
What plug planting tool do you use? I see Chief River sell two sizes of auger bits. Is there something similar to a dibble bar?

Stu, What plug planting tool do you use? I see Chief River sell two sizes of auger bits. Is there something similar to a dibble bar? If you were closer, I would give you my plug planting bar. I don’t know if it would pay to ship it. Most of my tree planting days are done except for a few trees each spring, just to say I did it.

Bare root or plugs? What tool for plugs? What nursery for shipping to NH? I'm looking for 200-300 firs/spruce and 250 white pine. I've planted 1500 bare root when I had my property. If I had to do it again I'd go with plugs. I used root gel and we had a dry year, I had well over 97% survival it made me a true believer in root gel. Do you remember what root gel you used?

They buy bulk and weigh out how much you need. Just little beads of it.

Loves pines but the bucks really are hard on them. In one row, every pine was rubbed .

If I plant balsam or white pine they get rubbed. I gave up on them.

I’ve always wanted to plant some pines in my food plot specifically to be rubbed. I should do that next year. I found some ditch white pines that would make great candidates. Plant one every year and pull the cage after it gets to about 7’ tall and let them have it.

Might put some bucks in the food plot in October.

Might put some bucks in the food plot in October. Mock scrape and rub trees really work well. I prefer to use either some type of pine or cedar with a trimmed trunk for rubbing and overhanging branches to make scrapes.
