One thing to consider if you want to drive on turf around your yard.........is that unless you have a differential on that front axel you will tear up turf. I use mine on the deer land....so it's not a huge deal.....but sometimes my Honda will tear up when turning short. I wish I had the ability to lock or unlock the front axel.....but not sure if I would pay for it in my circumstances. I dont need the 4 wheel traction all the time.....and seldom go into low range.
Also, I seldom use my winch. Wonder if that is needed compared to other things.....unless you want a snow plow.

It looks like if a guy is going to go with an enclosed cab with heat and a/c, the Polaris is the way to go. Kawasaki doesn't offer something like that, you need to go with an aftermarket cab deal and it looks pretty clunky to me. It seems either a guy drops $25K for something with most of the bells and whistles, or drop back to around $15K for a machine that will do everything the more expensive unit does...just with less human comfort. The wife says just spend the $25K and be done with it.... That sounds about right for the ranger. My parent's one has the windshields and roof/winch. No heat/ac. I think it was around that $15,000 range. Just remember Stu, YOLO. If it was just me, I'd make do with an atv (I'll probably have to replace my '05 Suzuki sooner rather than later). What's pushing me to go the fancy route is thinking about taking the granddaughter for rides someday. It would also be fun for the kids to take it out for rides.

Driving it on the yard isn't a likely occurrence. Driving it around my clover plots is almost a certainty.

Get the $15K Side by side and a new 4 wheeler. You and your wife win and you get a new 4 wheeler for woods/plot work

I thought it was going to die a number of times over the last couple years, but it just keeps starting and running (with some ongoing maintenance). I suppose now that I said that, I'll go down to start it in a bit and it won't start

I have a gator with tracks My land has been so wet that I have not taken them off for the last 2 years(pia to put on and take off) Heater is necessary to fight windshield frost. I like having a front and back reiver hitch. Great for pUshing trailers. You can get a winch mounted set up for the receivers. The dump box is used a lot.

Our ATV is a 2007. This past year we had an issue with the fuel pump I think or something with a line. They couldn't even get a part for it so had to jimmy rig the best they could. Now it's got a stutter at times where it just pukes. I like using the ATV at both places so I'd hate to be w/o one. I'll have to realize some stock market gains so I can buy one myself or split it with my dad. Gotta have the ATV to get around the entire place and for food plots. For the SxS, they got the one with the third seat in the middle for the grandson. Just need to get him a helmet so they can take him from the house to the shed and back.

(but not at the cost of the current models that do so).

Being without an atv here isn't an option. I use my atv quite a bit, I'd say I fire it up for something 70-80% of the days of the year. Maybe more. When mine takes a crap, I sure hope some dealer in the area has something that meets my needs on the floor ready to sell.

Now that I have my side by side.....I seldom use my Kawaska 400 Prairie. It say all summer. Had a gas leak that I had fixed and I am not going to get rid of it.....but it does not get much use anymore. I use the UTV for drag, seeding, chemical application and lots of other stuff that I used to do with the 4 wheeler.
My Kawa is pushing 25 years old - maybe more? I think I paid $3000 for it.....and it has cost me very little. Original tires on it still.
Guy that fixed mine said that lots of fires are started as folks dont turn off their gas on the tank when they park them (that is what was leaking on mine). Gas spreads across the floor and a spark can burn your building down. He got my attention. Damn solar power random sparks!

Also, imho, great value for the money.....BUT they don't have the comforts of a Polaris. And what momma wants, momma gets. Local financial support and ease of maintance are also at the top of my valued list.

I did contimplat buying an ATV and a modified golf cart. About the same money. It's just 2 pieces of equipment and I'm trying to reduce my cylinder index. But it might be something that would work for you

But it might be something that would work for you Love the “cylinder index”! I was thinking the same recently and thought about selling my snowmobile and buying a used set of tracks for the Ranger so it could be my do all machine. Couldn’t get the kids to buy into it though. They’re in the zone of getting pulled behind on sleds and going for rides on the snowmobile.
