So, I've got the new to us truck now. I'm going to start working on the side by side. I don't have a trailer to haul a side by side home, so that's the next purchase. Aluminum or steel? How big of a trailer do I need to haul a side by side around? It won't be an extended side by side, just the regular 2 or 3 person version...these are the dimensions of the one I'm looking at = 120L x 65W x 78H in

Rent it or require delivery in the price. You won’t need the trailer for repairs when you have help nearby.

Enclosed or not?
Last year I purchased an H&H brand trailer, model 6610, with hopes of getting a side by side soon. 66 inches wide, 122 long, 3500 pound axle. Open, aluminum, with wood floor. Would highly recommend one if you can find it.

I've considered borrowing or renting, but if we ever want to drive the thing somewhere else (like northern MN) and go trail riding, the trailer would be nice.

I've owned an Aluma 10 foot x 66" (?) trailer for 30 years. it has a torsion axel. I've hauled all kinds of stuff from garden tractors to my Honda UTV and lots of wheelers and building materials on it. Pulled it everywhere on hunting trips and to the lake and back dozens of times. Mine has an aluminum bed....but I think the treated is good too....maybe better? If I buy a new one.....I will get a 12 footer to allow a bit more room.....and likely a bit of extra width too....espeically if your gonna load a snow plow on it.
Mine rattles quite a bit.....and is likely getting worn out. I think I should replace it before I have problems. Never changed wheel bearings and it has original tires on it. The stake pockets are thin from wearing as it rubs in use. My brother in law borrows it all the time....until he finally bought one last fall. If I did ALLOT of driving I would consider a folding ramp / gate....but with low use the one-piece likely makes more sense.
A good utility trailer is worth owning. Mine don't owe me a cent. I'd sell this one....but you should buy a new one and enjoy it for the rest of your life. I will watch this thread with interest.
When I was selling aluminum for a living......I spent some time checking in on that Aluma factory in Cresco Iowa as they developed their product line. They were right down the road from the Featherlite Trailer plant - where I sold a shit ton of metal. I never did sell Aluma anything.....as they never quite got into production before I left the biz. I did not expect them to grow so fast. They were spot-on on their market research for those little trailers. Tho some of the early ones had a few issues with pins and wear, etc. A learning curve most have to experience. The other brands mentioned here are likely good too.....and I am going to look them over this summer. Maybe they are as good as the leader?? Still....Aluma has a long track record of building good stuff.

This is a solid aluminum trailer. I don't own one but looked one over as it was sitting right next to the trailer I bought to pull my tractor. Take note that it has 15 inch radial tires and dexter easy lube 3500# axle. 14 foot trailer will not sway as much as a shorter trailer. www.badgertrailerandpower.com/product/hh8314utalum.html

I have a 2014 H&H aluminum trailer that is 14’ long and 82” wide. It has a wood floor, folding ramp and 3500 lbs axel. It pulls easily and does not rust. However, aluminum is pretty light duty and if I was going to be at the max weight and use it a ton I would buy a heavier trailer.
I have used the trailer allot and would buy it again. One thing I wish it had is brackets/feet at the ramp you lower to stop the tongue from lifting when you drive on the trailer.

A 12' trailer should be long enough to haul a 10' UTV?

A 12' trailer should be long enough to haul a 10' UTV? Quite a few variables in UTV sizes Stu. I haul my Honda UTV on a ten foot trailer.....and it fits.....barely. More room would be nice. I believe a 12 footer is about right for most folks and UTV's.
