Yup, I'm always impressed w/ the difference between Sauk hills bucks and Juneau river bottom bucks. With two upper 120's on the wall, I'm still not against shooting a 120-125" but it'd probably get euroed vs shoulder mounted. Especially with the price of a shoulder mount these days. uffda. What is the going rate for a shoulder mount ? Have not heard a price in some time.......tho my grandson is paying $1500 for his bull elk. Yowsir! Down here by us its $725. Mine two years ago was $585. Pretty steep jump in 2 years. Fucking Obiden

I finally pulled 2 SD cards I've had out since before firearm opener. Very disappointed with what I got pics of, and the number (less than half what I had guessed I'd have) of pics I got. Does and fawns were very noticeably absent from both cards. Somebody around here must have whacked a number of them at some point. At any rate, I'm relatively certain this buck is the one I passed Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of firearm. They're not great pics to give a sense of his width (not great) but they do give a sense of his mass. In another 2 years he'd be a real slob. I have serious doubts I'll ever see him again however. I wouldn't be able to pass a buck like that Stu, but I completely agree that it sure looks like a buck that could take a big jump in another year. I wouldn't be surprised if that deer breaks your 150" goal next year. It looks like he has a split G2 and a tiny 6th typical point on that right side. Hopefully he bred a lot of does this fall since he has some great genetics.

What sold me on passing him was that I'm almost certain he's 3.5. I would really like to see what he becomes at 4.5 or older. He does have a split G2 and when I looked at him through the binocs, I'm pretty sure he's got a small split in one brow tine and maybe another sticker or two elsewhere. I think I came up with 13 points at least an inch long at one point. What he doesn't have this year is width or height. 2-3" wider or taller and I'm not sure I would have been able to pass him.

I did go with a high end form/pose I guess What type of pose did you go with? Do you have a favorite? I'm basically doing the same as my first, just turned the other direction. Semi sneak, right turn, ears half way back. Pretty simple for the first two so far.

I'm not sure what it's called anymore. It was the largest size form McKenzie makes according to the taxidermist. I had planned to put it on the other side of our living room TV opposite of the one I shot a couple years earlier, but it doesn't fit. It dwarves my other mounts.

Looks like a semi sneak w/ an offset shoulder but I'm not great at identifying all the poses. I like it though!

My favorite mount is probably the full sneak with an open shoulder (designed to add a fake tree/rock/foliage/whatever) that I shot in '19 (think it was '19 anyway). I have pics of it somewhere on here, but this is the only one I could find. It's the one to the left of the TV

However not taking anymore deer this year. Time and prices have changed. Last whitetail I had mounted was from a taxidermist in Rochester MN.....and he charged me $250 for a shoulder mount. Likely one of the best mounts I have seen. I have had elk, muleies, antelope, and bear since then.....but I do not recall any of them costing over $600 or so. (I was writing them off as business expense back then.....so I really did not care). I have doubts I will have another mount made.....and in fact do not know what to do with the ones we have if I move again. Also got hides and too many hunting "momentos". Been cleaning house....and giving much of this stuff to my family.....a bit at a time. Not sure they want my mounts....they got their own. It takes some time to find a good home for these things.....with people that appreciate them. What do you do with old mounts? They do have memories still....but will not make it to the next place we live. Enjoy 'em while they last. .

I figure mine will go in the 20 yard rolloff at some point, either by my hands or whoever gets stuck cleaning out my mess when I'm dead. I told my wife if we ever sell and move to FL permanently, the mounts aren't getting relocated. She was surprised I wouldn't take them along. If I move down there, I'd be done deer hunting, and the mounts wouldn't have any purpose for me at that point. I like getting new mounts done, and helping support my local taxidermist so he can make a living is a good thing IMO. A guy could offer the mounts for free to a local sports bar or some other place I suppose. My cousin who moved to Lake Havasu sold his mounts to some FIB before moving. He listed them on craigslist and they were gone quickly. Now, he's living back in WI and started deer hunting again.
