I'm going with the tried and true Sandbur method that art has perfected. Let the neighbors do all the work and pay for the inputs while I sit back and go fishing. Zero cost. Zero work. Zero stress.

Zero fun and anticipation. ....grin....but your methods has it's benefits. I do not have a neighbor like that up here in "the woods". I do take great satisfaction in completing these things tho.....it does grow on you. Kinda a problem solving event I suppose. Some pride in a job well done (at times).

Im gonna check tommorw on a drop point as said later in this video. Kinda like the way these folks do business. Nice guys and good values. ....no wonder they are growing so fast....they have the heart of the matter at stake. My new BIL from Iowa was an early adopter of cover crops. He told me that he knew these guys at GCC....and they are the real deal. They see their mission as a way to improve the ag inputs in this world. I think they are on the right path.

I am considering buying MOST of my seeds now for 2022. From my experience this year.....I am quite sure how I plan to plant at two times in 2022. Once in June when I will plant these seeds over 10 total acres: Summer Seeds (all from Green Cover Crop) Drill in Mid June1. 25 # / acre Warm Season Mix (5 - 50# bags = $317.50) 2. 25 # / acre Buckwheat ( 5 - 50# bags = $187.50) 3. 10 # / acre Sunflower. (2 - 50# bags = $65.00) (To the above I will add in some existing inventory of Impact forage collards, Sugar Beets, Soy beans) Total seeds cost outlay for June Planting = $ 570.00Fall Seeds (all from Green Cover Crop) Drill in Late Aug / early September1. 100#/acre Cereal Rye Elbon. 20 - 50 # bags @ $14. / bag = $280.00 2. 10# /acre Brassica Plus Release 2 - 50# bags @ $128.00 = $254.00 (To the above add current stock of clover, GHR, and collards) Total Seed Cost outlay for August Planting= $534.00Total Cost for 2022 = $1104 (plus some existing seeds) Hopefully low fertilizer and herbicide costs. What is in that warm season mix?

I do have the seed in the basement. RR corn and one bag of RR beans if I use it. I can no longer get into these fancy blends since my neighbor’s new planter doesn’t work with mixed beans and corn. Monoculture it is! And hopefully some manure first. Apple plans for next year are constantly changing.

It might make you 7 feet tall and standing straight as an arrow. If it works, I want some.

So....I got to thinking about blending seeds together for my drill. I know I can buy blended seeds at Green Cover Crop.....into almost any blend I want. But sometimes my thoughts change over time......so I think about doing the blending myself. ,<----that is a fair amount of work when it's hot outside. Lots of lifting and shoveling and mixing to get a nice blend for 10 acres.....plus you gotta handle everything multiple times. ARGH. So I thought..... why dont I buy a good old plastic cement mixer and blend those seeds myself and put them into 5 gallon pails to land the drill. That way I could blend about 2 or three acres into about 10 pails and be done in three batches. I think I could find a decent enough mixer for $100 or so....and save some grunt time. It's not getting any easier to do this chit....with my age and all. Any better ideas?? Do those have some kind of motor to spin the drum?

I'll sit back, watch what the plots grow, watch what's using them, then decide after she tells me what I need. If I bought now I would change my mind before planting the stuff so I just wait.
Some nice mixes on this thread!

That's looking like my plan more and more at Nassau Deluxe. Make my CRP bedding cover. Leave an acre or two on once side or the other and sit my ass in a heated blind.

Just picked up a cultipacker from Northern Tool. Won't have to pack plots w/ the atv tires next year!
I had originally ordered one from Tractor Supply end of June. After 3 months of bullshit excuses I finally told them to fuck off and cancel the order. Couple weeks ago I was perusing the Northern Tool site and saw they had them in stock w/ free ship to store. Said fuck it and took another chance. Card finally got billed the other day and got the call/email this morning that it was at the store. Glad to add to my plotting arsenal. Now I have to find time this weekend to try and get it put together.

I had to have a bit of welding done on it a few years ago, but other than that it has served me well. Sure beats the hell out of driving around in circles forever on an atv.

Yep.....I found one that is like new on CL for $100. guy used it to mix spices. Holds about 3 bags of seeds at a time. I think I will buy it. The way I been doing this is allot of work.....and this way I can keep things somewhat seperate in case my needs change .....or I change my mind on the mixes. I'm getting one that has never mixed concrete....and it's electric (AC baby) powered. .
