I think he'll fit in over here. In fact I half way suspected he was one of you guys in disguise (except for the chufa part).

There is no standard around here for ‘normal’. Except me.

Hey what's up everyone? The name is Pete. Glad to see you got a kick out of me and that fuckin idiot trading barbs hahaha.
I saw your alls welcoming posts and appreciate it. I just text Reagan on HT a minute ago and we actually live like 5 min away from each other. It's a small world
Just a basic intro I live on the outskirts of Cincinnati. My farm is an hour east of here. Been managing it for 10 years come March. I've done a shit ton of tree planting, food potting, fruit trees, and just got into switchgrass last year put 8 acres in. I've also done a few dove plots and had a duck impoundment up until 2 years ago I had to shut it down because it was gonna wash out my main road with some bad leakage.
Ive done a few thousand ROD and willow/poplar cuttings every year for the last 2 years and play around with propagation with cuttings and seedlings at home. I run a big garden in the backyard have chickens and a big family. Wife then 4, 5, and 6 year olds and one on deck due August.
I love the platform you guys got here and I will be posting a bunch of the stuff I do out at my place. I'm always putting new stuff in the ground and experimenting with like most of you I'm sure.
Thanks for being so welcoming, you guys seem cool I hope to learn a lot on this forum.

Hey, I'd be interested in seeing a thread focused on your experience propagating dogwood from cuttings and seedlings. I just sold my big woods property and am starting a new thing in an agricultural area that needs cover created. Welcome aboard.

Start your own land tour, or just turn this thread into one. Glad you're giving us a try. Not lot of us... but we have a lot of girth.

Girth. Are you talking about average waist size or knowledge base?

Kooch- I usually just cut a bunch of willows and ROD out of the swamp and then start sticking them. Anything from pencil sized all the way up to big poles. Had probably a 90+% success with them rooting and sprouting vegetation out, but the weeds are the biggest problem. They cant compete well with 3-4ft goldenrod and other junk. The deer also put a hurting on them whenever they get a chance. Willow is definitely more hardy than ROD. I did buy some op-367 poplars from Big Rock in 2015 tubed them they're probably 30ft tall at least. I coppiced a couple of them and use their shoots to clone new. But all my willow and rod are just wildlings.
This year I'm going to actually do it right and fence/landscape fabric a nice brick of cuttings, then also fence and experiment with treflan and simazine on the planting site to keep the weeds down. Every ROD willow or poplar I put in my propagation box or pot at home is 2-3ft of growth and massive roots so I get to churn as many solid plants at home as I can.
I'm going to be doing a similar project like you in the next few years hopefully. Filling in a large piece of blank canvas with some cover and I think cuttings are the way to go. I'm going to try and attach a file if i can it's a willow producers handbook. But it's from upstate New York it has detailed instructions for massive willow cutting plantings that they use for biofuel. They go over site prep herbicide and all that if i remember right the cutting per acre is around 6-7k so will need a lot of material.
But yeah I'll take some pics and do a couple progress pics on some ROD and willow this year
