I'm guessing all of a 30-40% decrease here. This winter may help turn things around with any luck.

I did my after muzzleloader season walk through today. It is nice to see deer bedding under spruce that were planted 20-30 years ago. I would estimate 8-10 deer survived season. I’m hoping the plugs I plant next spring get like that. I’ll planting plenty next spring and I’ll be thinking about your work.

The down wind side of a conifer bedding area is golden in November. In Missouri there is a transition from a thick cedar/hedge/hackberry/hickory bedding area to open oak timber . I had a regular camera there in November and the number of buck pics (trailing or dogging does) was amazing. Unfortunately I was not there to hunt, but next year I’ll be in this area. It was active daily! The area was full of rubs and scrapes !

The mentioning of MO reminded me of our trip thru that state a couple days ago. I hadn't been in MO since the early 90s. I was surprised at how much it resembled a lot of western WI. Obviously there are some different trees and shrubs, but there seemed to be more similarities than differences.
Edit..oh yeah, another thing about that drive. I'm pretty sure I could be convinced to move to south/southeast Iowa.
One more edit...there must be ridiculously high deer numbers in much of MS and AL. We saw dozens and dozens of road kills
