Gonna plant a couple more bagged and burlaped trees again next spring. They seem to be the way to go for me. Full size tree. Just add water. Are you done working in the spring? Stu and I can supply you with scion for your own grafting by the following spring.

I don't think Wade is wanting to screw around with scions and rootstocks. He wants trees that put fruit on the ground the same year they're planted

My neighbors kid comes over every few days and waters my 2 apple trees while I'm gone. And Stuart's right. I want nothing to do with grafting or young trees. Too much work and babying.

Now it's just a waiting game. I suppose I should sell this place when the orchards are in full production mode and before the trees start to decline.

A few of my trees are in decline, but what else would I do when I am not fishing. Kinderkrisp are tasting great right now and seem to be somewhat free of worms. Red Baron are also doing well. I will have some Liberty and Nova Easy Grow, plus Haralred and haralson.

Trap gophers for the neighbors, farm work, hauling, buy stuff at auction, sell it on Facebook, etc, etc.

We do those things for fun...., I keep reminding myself.

My first 6-8 years here I was putting in over 40 hours a week working on various projects. I'm probably down to half that many hours now. I should spend more time fishing...maybe next year.

Shit.... i said the same thing about fishing a few years ago. What I have realized.... i dont fish alone.... so I fish less. My son has his own life. Dad could give a shit to fish except a few times for spring panfish. Friends largely have their own cabins scattered all over the state now. Etc. My pool of fishing buddies has dwindled. I do fish alone at the cabin time to time. Boat is on the water, but even thats limited nowdays. Hence us partly buying a utv. Time for some new adventures to fill some calendar time.

It's nothing but work for me to take her, so I don't really get to enjoy it...so we don't go very often. I could sell our old boat and not be bothered a bit, fishing just kind of lost its appeal for me I suppose. I did enjoy fishing on Kabetogama this year, so maybe we'll do some more of that in the future. I think you will enjoy the UTV, I know my wife and I do. This time of the year is really great for driving backroads and looking at fall colors. Over by your folks' place would be really beautiful. Hit a few bars along the way

First Saturday in Oct is an organized utv fall color tour. Starts in henning at Gateway pub. Travels south through the "hill country" to parkers prairie. So it goes right by our farm from my limited knowledge of the route.
I am not on fakebook to follow the details.
Looking forward to it.

It is funny how the theme of these threads migrate. I am struggling to get things done around the orchard as the walleyes have been doing ok. I fished alone on Thursday as my buddy’s back was acting up. I enjoyed the day. I don’t have as many fishing buddies as I thought I would have in retirement.

I envision some Karen's telling people where they're going to go and how long they're going to stay at each location. I bet it'll be fun. I've just gotten to set in my ways as I've aged.
