I am trying to think back on new regulations, seasons, changes that the Minnesota DNR or legislature has made since 2000. I cannot think of one regulation or season adjustment, that would benefit deer hunting or deer survival? I can think of plenty of them. Guessing it sort of like is if the glass is half empty or half full to be if one judges the change to be good or bad. We harvested something like 290,000 deer one year. If we still had those same regulations that accomplished that there might not be any deer left.

Name one ? That gives the deer the advantage over the hunter ??

Name one ? That gives the deer the advantage over the hunter ?? You are changing the subject. Thought it was benefiting deer hunting or deer survival.
wolf season.
We got rid of EA season for a few years.
Used to be a 5 deer statewide limit, now a 3 deer limit.
Many areas are now bucks-only that were more liberal before.
Scopes on muzzy's being allowed to reduce the maiming of deer for less deer killed and more hunter satisfaction.
Youth season
Got rid of the A and B seasons to give hunters more time afield, greatly reducing the amount of deer drives.

Ok wolf season .. yeah . But early antlerless was added after 2000. Scopes on Muzzy does not help the odds for deer ? I’m just saying the DNR and legislature does very little and will not do anything that makes a big impact on deer survival . Not trying to argue. At this point .. I’m kinda burnt out with Minnesota deer hunting. I’ll deal with what I have I guess.

Name one ? That gives the deer the advantage over the hunter ?? The only change I've seen in MN that helped the deer was the APR rule in SE MN. It dramatically changed the number of 2.5+ year olds in the areas I hunt. Then that rule was removed. It seems to me like every other change made it easier to kill more deer. Increasing gun season lengths, adding scopes to muzzleloaders and now allowing Xbows in the archery season.

Scopes on Muzzy's dont make a big impact. The last big impact we had was the introduction of the doe lottery. That only came after the deer population got so low that the DNR did not even have a deer season for a year.

It would have a big impact ! Won’t ever happen I’m sure.

I talked with a couple guys since the new crossbow ruling that will be buying a Xbow and getting out this fall. Neither one has ever bow hunted. Good for them … one said he was going to hunt with crossbow but not gun hunt anymore.
If that happens to trend, I guess we might see more early pressure and not as much during the gun season.
Hopefully the MN registration system will be specific on harvest so the impact can be followed year to year.

I suspect there will be lots of used crossbows for sale in 5 years.
Were some counties exempted from the universal crossbow in the final bill?

Crossbows should be limited to the old or disabled, or should be allowed during an “open” season where any legal weapon is fair game just after the peak of the rut. They are way too easy requiring less skill to proficiently use than a weed eater.
OR, make it one buck for all weapons combined for the entire season.

One buck per person in Minnesota. One and done .
However, party hunting does allow a hunter to cross tag. Which means a hunter could technically shoot multiple bucks .

Minnesota is an unlimited buck state, you’re only limited by the number of friends and family members who will let you punch their tag.
I had a friend who killed 3 bucks in a season that were bigger than any buck I’ve ever shot. 2 firearm season and 1 muzzleloader.

I had a friend who killed 3 bucks in a season that were bigger than any buck I’ve ever shot. 2 firearm season and 1 muzzleloader. WI allows every hunter to take a buck with archery equipment and with a firearm, and they also allow party hunting with firearms...which also gets abused by a likely small percentage of hunters. Yet, many MN deer hunters wish for WI's season and rule structure. I hope your friend was following the rules regarding legal cross tagging. If he wasn't, he wouldn't be a friend of mine.
