Plenty of deer drives around Swanville My best friend's family has an incredible parcel between swanville and long prairie. They don't intend to do drives but i'm pretty sure when 12 of them roll out of camp to walk to their stands on opening morning, that's what happens They must not be too far from me

our neighbors drive every year on Sunday noonish of opening weekend. Drives me nuts. My wi neighbors drive their place every opening day at about 10 am. They have an army of drivers and standers and the ground is flat, so there is no real safe shooting directions. But they don’t let that stop them and they blaze away.

For those that hunt multiple states; do you see more drives in MN or elsewhere? And do those places have their gun seasons in the rut?
I haven't hunted outside of MN in years, and only very little, so no personal experience on this question. I would guess that hunting outside of the rut would encourage more deer drives.

Plenty of deer drives around Swanville Private land seldom sees drives here, as far as I know. I have one brother in law who farms and they do deer drives. They shoot lots of deer and make sausage. From what I hear they haven’t put much of a dent in the deer population. It is strictly a meat hunt and our area has plenty of tags. My family used to do deer drives (1-2 drivers in a 80 acre plus woods). I just didn’t always feel safe and I didn’t like that style of hunting.

Amish and Mennonite's around here drive the crap out of whatever they can. A few years ago a guy about a mile from my 40 has 120 acres of nice woods. 2 young Amish boys come knocking on the door asking if they could hunt as their dad didn't own any woods. Since the guy hunted it by himself he figured he be nice and let the kids hunt. Opening day 20+ showed up to drive it out. He kicked them out and told them never to return.

^^^the Amish west of me 10-15 miles are notorious for drives as well. They'll happily shoot big bucks given the opportunity, but their main focus is meat acquisition.

1 neighbor still does drives. He sends his 3 kids to sit on the ridges and then he slowly walks through the woods. They have killed some good bucks doing that. Another set of neighbors who used to do drives all the time, decided to buy box blinds and just sit tight. The last 3 years, they have killed a great buck opening weekend. Once opening weekend gets past, more guys in the area do drives as evidence of all the gun shots ringing out.

I picked up a Rhino Limer last year to spread ag lime on my plots from the guy that makes them near Black River Falls, WI. What a beautiful area, looks like perfect whitetail habitat. I commented on how awesome the area looked and asked if the hunting is as good as I imagined. He responded by saying it used to be. When i asked why that was he pointed across the street to the amish folks building a big ass house and mentioned that wolves made it that far south (which surprised me). I listen to Don Higgins' podcast and they seem to have a huge Amish/Mennonite listener base which I always wondered about because what Don preaches is completely at odds with the stereotype put on Amish folks when it comes to deer hunting.

I know it's extremely common in Eastern ND and it seems very popular in much of IA as well. The ND way - road hunting and deer drives. The more serious folks hunt over bait.

We have land about 40 minutes south of Black River Falls and have wolves around. That was 8 years ago. Those bastards are all over. I saw 2 in 2015 but haven't since. But they have an established pack in the area.

They do deer drives in Iowa. They have 2 gun seasons. First one is 5 days, second one is about a week . In December!!!. So it’s kick ass really . That’s why Iowa is the bomb for mature bucks . First season is laid back not many hunters period, very few deer drives in my area . Second weekend they walk a lot and push deer. They hunt morning until late afternoon, then they get together and drink beer ! My neighbors have invited me, but I’m not a deer drive guy. It makes me nervous. I think they enjoy it, as a way to get some deer meat and an excuse to party ! They do shoot an occasional giant as well.

In Iowa residents can get buck tags and they can party hunt during the gun season only . No party hunting in any other seasons (archery, muzzy, youth, urban hunts).
You cannot possess another hunters tag, or move the deer before it’s tagged. They are pretty strict on tags down there and I like how they limit party hurting to gun only !
