Given tick season is upon us, I finally remembered to get the most important piece of tick prevention gear while at the Wal Mart today. Gonna put this thing out in the garage, which is also where all the woods clothing will also stay. Gave Amazon a crack at this too. Best alternative there was $40 or so.

Time to get a set of clothes treated with permethrin. I just did so for my wife and I. I'm sure ticks are already out

I found 2 ticks while planting my trees. I was wearing treated pants but my shirt was not. One tick crawling on my arm and my daughter saw one in my hair.
Of course it’s in the 60s down here. I plan to treat several sets of clothes when we go back for a week

^^^this time of the year I go from cutting my hair every 3-4 weeks to every 1-2 weeks. I use the clipper without a guard to get the back and sides of my head as short as it'll go. Any ticks that make it to my noggin are easy to see and the short hair usually "tickles" when one is crawling around so it's an early warning detector

I may be buying clippers before the lockdown ends. I get it buzzed down once per month.

I had a bottle of permethrin mix I mixed last spring. I used it this weekend. Spent a lot of hours in the woods and CRP grasses.
I found exactly ZERO ticks of any kind. My son was picking them off him like mad. I told him to spray the shit on him, but he thinks he knows best.

I've been wearing my treated clothes all spring. Zero ticks. Today, I wore shorts (untreated) and pulled a few ticks off my legs. Treating a set of clothes is cheap and easy, no reason to not do so IMO.

Last year I soaked my sets of clothes in the laundry tub. That worked pretty well, but I did have a bit of concern on putting a couple extra gallons of the mix into my septic system. This morning I mixed 1 teaspoon of 10% permethrin with 2 gallons of water in a new "bug spray only" hand sprayer. Laid my clothes on the lawn, sprayed both sides until saturated and hung on the line. I imagine it'll take a couple days for them to dry, but then I should be set for tick season. I'll just leave the remaining spray in the sprayer for now. I'll get my wife to put a set together tonight and spray hers tomorrow. Whatever spray that's left after that can just wait until I spray for tent caterpillars. With this week's forecast of lots of 50s, the ticks will be out and thick I bet. are you still using this method?

Last weekend I neglected to wear my treated outfit the first day, jeans, long sleeves, rubber boots as usual. I got the ticks, a bunch of them, and was up all night because every little tickle was a tick in my mind.
The next day I put on my treated ensemble, zero ticks. This year I mixed the permetherin in a 5 gallon bucket and did the dunk and dry. This stuff works. I only twitch a little after wearing the clothes.

I tried something this weekend that I read on some hunting site somewhere. I took cotton balls and soaked them down with permethrin and then let them dry. I then stuffed short pieces of pvc with the cotton balls and stashed around the cabin. Supposedly mice will use the cotton in their nest which will then kill ticks.
I have walked miles this spring with treated clothes and haven’t had a tick. Spent less than 5 minutes picking up the baby groundhog my dog killed while wearing shorts and had a tick while in my back yard. I put out the pvc immediately. It will be an interesting experiment.

Treated = no ticks Untreated = tickmaggedon
If I die early because of permethrin, but lived a tick free life it is a trade off I’m willing to take.
