Just planted a few hills of pumpkins by the garden. They're more for the grandkid than the deer, but if they produce there will plenty for everybody

Nuked the neighbor's acreish plot a bit ago. Hit it hard with 2 qts gly/1 qt. Trimec. I'll let it go a month or so, then nuke again with gly and seed to brassicas (if it rains in July anyway).
I'm not impressed with the results of frost seeding Frosty berseem. I saw zero of it when spraying. We did have a decent stand of mixed white/red clover in spots though.

Planted 21 hills of pumpkins and gourds the other night and have hand watered daily since. Should pop soon. Mostly Connecticut Fields for the pumpkins.

For some reason when I use Trimec on my suburban yard I get partial die back of my grasses. Maybe to high of dose but its been frustrating. I wonder how it would work in the mix you described for corn? Maybe it would be a good way to get an advantage on pigweed.

If I mixed it too hot, it'd give the grass a temporary "burn". I've even burned lawn grass with hot 2-4D. I have no idea how the mix would do on RR corn. I'd think it would be okay, but that's just a guess.

Darn deer found the sweet corn and nipped most of them off.
Not surprised. Always gamble.

My neighbor sprayed the corn plots this week and I thought it would be ok to plant some beans in the shooting lane and where the tile line went in.
I double checked the sprays with Mo and raked in a bag of beans. 28 pounds, I think and the seed could be a couple years old. I am not sure what germination will be, but it is gone.

Got all my rye rolled yesterday. I did terminate about two acres via spray with cleth.....as the grasses were taking over. may end up to roll that too.....not sure yet. The Goliath roller worked pretty sweet. Got lots of much now.....and summer release and buckwheat is under all that rye. Hope we get a shot of rain soon. Still got some pumpkins and some soybeans I could plant.....but need a few days off.
The roller / crimper is just inches wider than my tractor.....and a foot wider than my drill. perfect. I did fill the drum with water. I believe the six foot roller weighs about 1500 lbs. Heavy dude. Crushes the stems on the rye to terminate....but leaves other plants mostly in tact.
View from the cab driving into the rye for a second pass on this plot. The rye is about 5 feet high and has reached anthesis. I'm glad STU pushed me to put down 100 lbs / acre....could have even been thicker for the first start of growing mulch. The buckwheat should help this summer......and after this the 100 # / Acre should be about right.
View from the cab of the roller just passing over the rye.
Wonderful rye mulch covering the GCC Summer Release. (beans, buckwheat, sorghum, clover, etc. 9 different seeds IIRC)
My soil is pretty sandy.....but has some rye roots and even a worm!
Under that mulch is quite a bit of clover actively going......and I planted the Summer Release two weeks ago.....and I can see the buckwheat germinating too. Here is what is under the covers. .

Finding worms in sandy soil is a good sign. My folks' sand had zero worms.
That rye mulch lasts a long time above ground, and the below ground roots add a whole bunch of OM too. You're well on the way to having some good soil Foggy.

I’ve been predicting death to buckwheat by the crimper. It might be small enough to survive. How much rain did you have after planting.
I hear all this talk of planting into sand. Your soil looks better than I expected. Everything looks good.

Your soil looks better than I expected. Everything looks good. I kinda pushed myself to roll that rye now. Reason is....I had planted the GCC Summer Release about two weeks ago....and had a few light rains (1/4" total) since then. The summer release has 9 different seeds in the blend....and it's started to grow under that rye. The rye was just into anthesis for a few days....but not much moisture in the seeds yet. Kinda a gamble....as I wanted to wait for the "dough" stage. Thought I should be satisfies with what I got and terminate now. Not sure if I did the right thing.....but some more rain is predicted in the next days.....and hated to miss that. The soil I show in that shovelful.....is about the best soil I have. Most of it is sandier than that shown.....but it is variable.
