one interesting note over the weekend.
LOTS of ducks around. Huge mallards piling into a pond across the road from the farm. Other neighbor was out duck hunting today on our shared slough and shot 5 Ringbills. Saw lots of ducks flying. I shoulda duck hunted!!!!!!!!

My wife said very similar things after our first UTV ride in the Henning area. She wants to hit the Black Hills. hell yea! Side note, I got the UTV back after the light bars got installed, forgot to get pics. so happy! Bringing it home next weekend. Now, back to the original scheduled program.

The Drury app takes a number of variables into consideration, Yesterday's forecast was poor and today was OK. Tomorrow is good and later in the week is great. The app has some good information on barometric pressure, weather and other stuff. Costs 25 bucks a year so pretty cheap to run.

I suspect these hunting apps are very similar to what we see fishing. There are peak feeding times based on the moon or sun that can be strengthened or weakened or over ridden by weather. Then throw in th rut.
So what I do know is that it is 2:30 AM and I am wide awake. At least five deer are feeding in the garden and orchard.

Agree, I think they are directional at best but do summarize things so you can easily see it. I think this bright moon is never good for deer hunting, the deer can easily feed all night. Nice to see the wind die down.

My phone crapped out on me so I can't post a picture, but my 10 year old son shot a yearling 6 pointer opening night at our place. Deer movement at my place has been pretty crappy, but if the forecast holds that should change in a few days.
I hunted my friend's place 30 miles away yesterday and saw a pile of bucks, but none of the bigger ones were quite close enough. Lots of little bucks in range though, so I just need a little luck.

I've heard more than a few guys saying they haven't seen shit. Most of them were hunting north of here. Edit...got 3 fawns eating clover west of the house. Nice to see they aren't freaked out from hunting pressure

I've heard more than a few guys saying they haven't seen shit. Most of them were hunting north of here. I made a drive to the farming areas which are due south of my property. All had corn planted this past year. The closest field is something like 300 acres and its all been combined......but lots of stalks and hulls reamin. Just a bit further to the west are a number of fields with standing corn. Maybe another 500 acres that is within a mile of my land. I suppose the drying costs are too high to pick that corn early. I would bet that most of that corn will come out this week.....and that they will chop the stalks after that. I'm sure that area is holding lots of "my" deer. I've been getting some nighttime pics of deer coming from that area....and onto my property. Gonna hunt that closest blind tonight.

That said, ya we run dirt and blacktop roads. I am unaware of any atv/utv trails around here. This is Todd county, one of the poorest counties in the state. We cant afford any such trails
