I got a phone call from a Truck Driver about an hour ago......he said he had three pallets of seeds for me. Same driver as about a week ago......when I refused the delivery. I refused the seeds again. No way to unload those seeds here....and somebody has screwed up. I called to Welters. Gave them the info and the Driver phone number. Not sure what is going on with them? Somebody there is costing them allot of shipping costs. A shame. EDIT: Welters called me back. Seems the driver is pretty screwed up. The have been re-shipping this same original shipment of seed around.....and he now "thinks" he has 3 pallets. I'm glad I called Welters.....this is somewhat of a debacle....and I hate to see it cost them too much money for their mistake. Chit happens. When you finally accept the delivery, I would look it over before signing for it. Heck, you might even end up with seed for a cash crop!

Just ordered 10 lbs. of ladino clover. I've also got close to 40 lbs. of red clover, maybe 7-8 of Frosty berseem, and 5-6 of Renvoation white clover left from last year. More than enough to frost seed a heavy dose on my and the neighbor's clover plots. Now for the snow to melt...

Frost seeding some clover is on my to-do list as well for a couple areas. That is never my favorite activity, but I probably should get it done one of these weekends since spring has to come eventually.
I probably should start collecting scion and tap my maple trees as well this weekend since the calendar says it is time for those activities as well even though it doesn't feel like it yet.

Winter boredom is really getting to me. I've got 15 lbs. of Vernal and 5 lbs. of Falcata alfalfa seed in my cart at Great Basin Seeds. I know alfalfa doesn't frost seed all that well but I'd like to add a bit to my plots.

With a few exceptions, the local hardware has common, reliable seeds at very reasonable prices. Garden seeds, that is.

I actually got to snow blow today. 1st time since my Jan 30th procedure. Felt good to be able to do some normal stuff. Can't wait for the weather to change to be able to do some food plotting.

We don't order much from veggie seed catalogs, but the last few years we've ordered bush bean and cuke seed. The local stores don't have the varieties we want. We do pick up all of our pepper, tomato plants, and onion sets locally (usually we hit at least 3-4 places looking for what we want).

My brother in law has been starting and growing ten to 12 varieties of tomatoes the last few years and I buy plants from him. I don’t know what is legal, but ‘ someone ‘buys bulk seeds, weighs them out, and sells in zip locks marked with a sharpie. I have not bought an apple tree, rootstock, or scion this year and probably won’t. There will probably be some horse trading going on.

I haven’t been to camp in two months. Still a shit ton of snow and March has been the coldest month of winter. Have just enough grafting success to keep trying but I really suck at it. The forester was up marking trees this week. I have him marking an acre next to to the stump plot to clear cut so I will have a project for a couple years. I’m thinking a, in the woods orchard which would be a huge draw.

My apple tree plantings that are in the woods have had little success due to competition from natural regrowth and light soils besides. I have gotten a few above the regrowth after cutting it back about 3 times.

I know alfalfa doesn't frost seed all that well but I'd like to add a bit to my plots. I went back to Great Basin and changed my order to 10 lbs. of Ranger alfalfa, 5 lbs. of yellow blossom sweet clover, and 5 lbs. of Falcata alfalfa. The neighbor and I are going to have a very diverse mix on our clover plots. I need spring to get here so I can get outside and get to work...

Forecast for Vining. Its going to be a while before anything is close to happening. Sheesh. Not even 1 night with above zero temps.
