Has anyone tried planting winter peas in the fall? I know they won't mature but more so looking at mixing it with tridicale or rye. Just thinking of adding something extra to the table.

I mix in some 4010 field peas in with my cover crop blend that I plant in my gardens after picking vegetables in late summer. I generally mix whatever seed I have on hand - oats, rye, peas, buckwheat, brassicas as the goal is to build up the soil a little. I've had good luck with random blends like that.

Used to plant them when I planted them with rye, oats and wheat mix. They are like candy to deer. Make sure you use about 40 pounds of winter peas per acre with your mix. It was fun watching deer picking the winter peas as they were growing.

I've added them to my cereal grain mix of the LC mix rotation. Pretty sure the deer don't let them even get started as I rarely see a plant after a couple weeks.
