The wife is canning the first batch of dill pickles tonight. She blanched and froze 8 qts. of green beans last night. We'll have ripe tomatoes for BLTOCs this weekend. Also having the first batch of creamy cukes this weekend. With the forecasted heat next week, we should be thick with tomatoes soon.

I guess the Lord granted my wish to be done watering the garden. Hail Total loss?? My wife picked a half dozen pickles tonight. We will get more of those and a few tomatoes. Beets and potatoes were fine. Green beans were a total loss.

I just pulled the pea vines out. I think the wife blanched and froze 8-10 quarts of them in the last few weeks. We need to get our peas in earlier in the spring from now on. They don't do well in the heat. Of course, June this year was off the charts hot. That didn't help.
I tried yanking out the t-posts that held up the chicken wire fence for pea vine support. They aren't coming out until I soak the shit out of the garden. Sheez. I've been watering it at least an inch a week, but those posts are in there deep.

We ate just a few pea pods and never do get many peas. I think the sand gets warm too fast. My row was about 6 foot long.

It wasn't sandy there though. I got her to switch to some pea seed from Jung's down by my old place and now we get fairly decent crops. We had a double row about 20' long.

Peas did well this year despite being hit with some herbicide overspray. I think they did about this much three days in a row.

A niece in Oregon is making a go at growing and selling flowers. They started out with just a booth at the farmers market. Now they have retail space in a local shop.

She just sent more for you guys. no straw flowers? I used to make a few bucks selling them and zinnias at a farmer market 100 years ago. Did your FIL have a glass of sun tea while shucking peas? That pic reminded me of my folks

Last year the wife planted 4, 20'ish rows of green beans. We had beans coming out of our ears. Gave a shitload away and froze many, many quarts. I told her to plant a single row this year instead. She cut it down to two rows. She's picking them this morning and bitching about it. So far, she's brought in 4 Walmart grocery bags full. Maybe next year she'll listen to me
