It won’t change in the near future! I’m certainly not embracing it! It will be my sons generation that demands it (age 25 now) when the older tradition driven hunters are gone. I won’t see it, but I believe deer hunting in general will change a lot by then… it honestly doesn’t even bother me like it used to.
Two options A) shoot one before the gun season B) hunt another state during that week.
It’s fine, I’ve hit capitulation and I try not to worry about it .

Embrace our wonderful gun season.

I gave up fighting it all long ago. Zero will change to kill less deer. As populations increase demand to kill more deer is inevitable.

The generation I’m referring to (my 4 boys)—- ages say 21-30. I can think of 50+ kids in those grades that hunt. I’d say 90% are serious hunters, not meat hunters. They will shoot a doe, but their focus is nice bucks. They travel more than I ever did. Hunt multiple states.
The bows these guys shoot are top quality/expensive. They hunt a lot and they buy nice clothing, boots, stands. In contrast I was cheap until I hit age 30.
It’s different and I think they will have much different goals when they get to be the top dogs.
(Maybe it’s different elsewhere, but I’m telling you these kids are passionate and devout hunters) . In just our little friend group, 5 kids or young adults own land already, and one is a full time guide in North Dakota.

Passionate. It has no bearing on getting things changed because they spend lots of money on what they are passionate about. DNR is the DNR. They will claim to listen, and will do what they have always done. They do what they want in the end. you cant vote them out because you have a passionate crowd. They decide what they want when the day is done. Great example, Beau Liddel in Little Falls could give one shit about what hunters think is best. Thats a fact. As long as he is in charge there, NOTHING will get better.

The demand to shoot more and more deer will only go up with human population growth. Lyme disease and other tick borne disease cases are rising quickly, deer get much of the blame. Car/deer crashes remain high. CWD still scares many people. Deer damage to valuable (and expensive) farm crops continue to make farmers less than happy. The demand for more and more acres to be farmed will go up, thereby reducing wildlife habitat.
This state has zero history of managing for buck age structure on a statewide scale. It won't happen here in our lifetimes, or our grandkids' lifetimes, or their grandkids' lifetimes.
I see next to zero involvement in governmental decisions/issues from the young gals and guys I know who hunt.
It is what it is

That's about where I am now. I don't think I'll buy an archery license this year. I enjoy watching rut action from my box blinds and I'm more accurate with a firearm than I am with a bow.

That is exactly where I am at. I see and kill nicer deer with clean kills, and faster recovery with the rifle. Twenty five to thirty years ago, I would have preferred bow hunting and going solo. Now I enjoy hunting with my wife and hope one of my girls will come home to hunt, as I know I only have a limited number of years left to hunt. I feel perspective and goals change with age. Now the decision is to buy a bow license I will have 99% chance of not filling. I intend to go north to ‘bow’ hunt a few days but have no intention of shooting a deer. I will visit some friends, read a book on stand, remember hunting with family there in my younger days, and maybe whittle a few fish decoys. And perhaps I will get to watch some deer. Do I buy a bow tag and hang the crossbow in a tree or just forget it?

Forget it Art.
Why give the DNR the money.
I am not buying an archery tag this year. 5 years now I have not bought a tag.
Let the boy shoot a deer with a bow if he wants. Fine with me.

I've got a nice bow collecting dust. Yeah, I suck at archery, and that is a big reason it now collects dust. Also though, if I am able to fill my tags during fewer days of gun season, then I see no reason to spend many days bow hunting. Call it German efficiency, being poor, common sense, or whatever.

Do I buy a bow tag and hang the crossbow in a tree or just forget it? Seems to me you could do those things and leave the crossbow at home. Or if you have a small game license take the crossbow and go coyote hunting. I just have no intentions of giving the MNDNR twice the license fees for 1 deer

I bet the DNR and the MN legislature are thinking what next .. we need something new . More deer shot, fewer mature bucks !! I’m sure the rifle statewide will happen. Then what ?
2 buck tags per hunter ?.. they won’t stop! It will be something out of left field !

In the areas I hunt, I am not seeing as many hunters during the regular firearm season as I saw 20-50 years ago.
