Switchgrass is some cool stuff. If I ever buy land, I will have a switch field! There were only two apples on this chestnut crab to start and still two on there. Not sure what critter broke the main leader off?

I overseeded this bean plot with brassica a couple of weeks ago. Hit it with AMS and rye tonight. This one was buckwheat that I broadcasted, sprayed and mowed. It’s wayyyy too thick. Oh well!

Nice update SC. You got that bean plot dialed in about right. That should fill in damn nice.
On those apples, and forgive me I don't follow the apple threads, how much maintenance does it take to get a red ripe apple like that? That one was purdy. I eat an apple every day. It'd be nice to have my own tree, but I haven't figured a way to keep a producer alive up north yet.

I have my summers off, so my trees get babied minus getting water to them like I should in the sand. They get sprayed every two weeks or so once petal fall happens up until about a month ago and I take some time to try and train them/prune them how I like them to look. I know guys have really good luck with nice clean fruit with just the fruit tree spray you can get at any big box store. I think that first spray timing is crucial once petal drops, insects/disease love that tiny growing little fruit. It would be tough getting that spray in if you can't make it up in spring when that happens, but you have a lot of guys on here that could let you know about when to time a trip up. This tree would have been considered "second leaf" this year if I was to buy it from a nursery, so apples can be had fairly early, obviously not many. I usually just leave a couple on early to give them a taste.

There were only two Whitney Crab on the tree this year. Decided to pick one on Friday and as you can see from the seeds, it’s still a touch early. Still tasted good!

They accepted an offer on Monday. Sounds like the family wants to give me some money for everything I have done down there, so that could be kind of a neat thing! I picked centennial yesterday when down there I waited to long to pick this Whitney, the sunny side was very soft. Sad to see the sold sign

Well there’s now closure for your family SC. Now you can work on your own place. Hopefully some day down the road you’ll be able to get hunting a chunk somewhere as well. You did a great job there on the farm. Thank you for all of your posts over the years. They’ve been fun and informative.

Made my first thing of apple crisp this evening from today’s haul. Going to try the cider thing maybe tomorrow night! Chestnut crab Paula Red I’m drawing a blank on which crab this is. I will have to go back and look at my notes. It’s in my nursery still. Just looked (Anaros crab)

How does anaros taste?
Neither of my anaros is a healthy tree. I need to topwork them to something else.

Some showroom quality apples in the pics. Mine all end up ugly for some reason, those look great!
