Planted my plugs from Lodholz this morning. 99% of them were nice plugs now. All Lodholz needed to do was grow them out for another year. Next spring they would have been fine. Mine didn't grow for shit. But I didn't exactly care for them this summer. Half were dead. Oh well. They weren't that expensive. Mine didn't put on much for top growth either, but they did grow a bunch of roots. With all the rain we had this year, about all the care I gave mine was 5 or 6 waterings. They sat on the east side of the house for months. I feel now that I got my money's worth...but it still pisses me off I had to grow them out for the spring/summer to make them plantable.

I planted like 5 the other day. I checked on them last weekend and couldn't even find them, they're so small. Just pathetic all around. Only lesson is to never order from them again. And 4s is too small for my plug planting tool. Need 6s or bigger.

I won't be finding out for myself though.

Checked on some of the Spruce plugs along the road today that were out in the open. They definitely benefited from Sandbur's shade wall recommendation. They put on some good growth and form this year despite the dry conditions. Quite a few of the willows cuttings I used were holding leaves still. Will be interesting to see how they look next spring

Good news is the Itasca plugs came in and they look great. Bad news is the freezing temps last night. The highs look to be into the 50s for awhile after today. Think I should be concerned about throwing these into the ground later in the week?

I got some Norway 6s that are a little bit shorter, but still good. Some 10s tamarack as well. Much better than the little shit plugs from Lodholtz last year I doubt any of those survived.

I couldn’t even get them out last year. I just left them out in the open over winter. Half survived. I might let them go another year or try and get some in the ground yet this spring.

I don’t think it’s a big worry ? I’m not worried. Was just curious. Mine looked good, just weren’t that tall.
