App says this from pic 1. Yep, it's definitely apple leaves (variety Wakapala specifically). I was referring to the brownish spots, sorry

Oh. Seemed strange that an apple expert would need the app to find an apple tree. That’s what rookies like me do.

It seems like I have seen that a lot through the years. Usually not at the beginning of the growing season. No idea.

I thought the fruit geeks on another forum would ID that damage ASAP. Seems they don't know any more than I do. I'm relatively certain the brown spots are frogeye spot (black rot). I got the second round of Imidan/Captan/Indar/Eagle/Nu-film P on today. There's a fair amount of insect damage on leaves, but I didn't notice a lot on fruit. As time goes by, I may up my spray game...I'm considering adding a mid-July shot this year, then hit them with a last shot in early August. edit..just a reminder for MN apple growers extension.umn.edu/news/apple-maggots-0#:~:text=The%20apple%20maggot%20(Rhagoletis%20pomonella,and%20will%20have%20limited%20use.

I thought you called those frog eye spots when I showed them to you a few years back. I sprayed this morning and this will be the last time for the season. I need 21 or so days until harvest. I noticed insect damage on some trees and concentrated spray on fruit clumps and leaders of young trees where insects are hitting them hard. A few trees are showing more drought stress and I did take 10 gallons of water to a centennial on B 118. It is always interesting to see what has fair numbers of fruit. Some trees have more fruit on the north side, maybe we had frost damage?? Red Baron, Prairie Magic, Norland, Northland, Haralson, one Kerr, and Hazen have pretty good fruit numbers. Fair amounts of fruit on Goodland,St Edmunds Russet, Lon Prairie VFW, September Ruby, and one Khazak apple.

Yeah I'm going to spray again tomorrow morning. Capt/Imidan its what I got so I'll roll with it.
I think my last spray was the week of Memorialish.

I was hoping somebody would confirm it for me over there. I did find out that Captan can cause damage that looks almost identically, as can Alternaria leaf blotch. It seems the Alternaria is more of a southern issue though, so I'm going with frogeye spot as the most likely, with Captan damage a distant second. How do your Chestnut trees look this year? My Long Prairie VFW has been slow to produce. I grafted a couple more this year, but I haven't checked on them for quite a while.

I don't know what type of damage that is on those leaves, but it is fairly common on my trees as well.
If you guys are spraying again this weekend, then I think I will do the same. I'm interested in seeing how my fruit quality this year with multiple sprayings compares to prior years.
It has been really dry here, so that could be a factor as well for disease.

If I added 1 more round of fungicide in May and 1-2 more rounds of insecticide/fungicide in mid July and early September (for my late bearing varieties) I think most of the fruit would look like grocery store apples.

I will have some chestnut crabs and did spray some of the trees outback. Definitely not a bumper crop

I pruned this crab seedling the last two springs and it looks like it responded pretty well.

If you get a chance to taste the LPVFW fruit, let me know what you think. Any fruit on your Pillsbury crab? Mine are loaded this year. I am probably going to end up with broken limbs on a top work from a few years ago.

It is across the ditch and I haven’t looked at it for a month.

I'm thinking that I'll skip the third spraying this year. We'll see what the fruit looks like.
