Lots of ticks out there

I top worked trees yesterday. I have cut back, but added a pear to my Franken tree. Thanks for the scion, Stu. It was nice to visit.
I put Pipsqueak crab on a dolgo rootstock and also on a franken flowering crab.
I also put Crow Egg on my Franklin crab which is on B118. Crow Egg also went on the franken flowering crab.
I hope I live long enough to taste the fruit.

I understand why commercial orchards plant blocks of the same variety. I've got trees at bud burst/tight cluster and at silver tip right next to each other. Makes spray timing a lot more complicated
Edit..I've got maybe 10 apple and pear rootstocks that I was going to field graft. I'm toying with just letting some or most of them grow into trees instead. If the fruit sucks, I could topwork later. Crawling around on the ground gets less fun every year. Maybe a few sunny days will change my mind...

My plums are at full bloom. Mature serviceberries seem to be as well. I was happy to see the insane amount of bees in the plums.

Field grafted a few ussurian pear rootstocks this morning in the rain. That's enough of that. If any of the grafts take I'll be a bit surprised. Neither parafilm or tape wanted to stick.

Every year I'm surprised how far behind Court Pendu Plat is compared to most every other apple tree. There is barely a hint of green on a few limb tips of one CPP tree. The other still is at full silver tip.
I need to snap a pic of a Pillsbury crab limb I grafted to a wild crab (pea sized fruit). The thing is just loaded with flower buds right now, when it blossoms it should be impressive. That tree is a great deer crab.
If there's no drought or hard frost this year...this may finally be the year I've got apples coming out of my ears.

I see they are starting to wake up.

I see they are starting to wake up. I thought that I'd lose at my Liberty,Golden Hornet, Ure and Early Gold trees this spring. They went dormant very early last year. 3 years in a row of drought/dry and zero supplemental water...I figured they were doomed. All are showing green. I suppose I could still lose them, maybe just the last bit of stored energy. Time will tell.
