So what does it say about the rut when a doe and her nubbin buck fawn are eating sunflower seeds together in my back yard right now? Has she already been bred? Could well be. Last week I had a lot of fawns by themselves. This week the fawns all came out with their mom. Might be a good thing, the bucks will be roaming looking for another hot doe.

Suggestion of the century Your Dad’s buddies could cut firewood for two weekends.

Hardest part of this week is hunting the edges of everything since I am saving the good stuff for all the family rifles hunters...me included That is exactly what I have been doing. No bow hunting at home except a very exposed observation stand. I did my bow hunting up in zone 1, mostly for old times sake. Memories of where I started hunting 50 plus years ago and visit a few old friends. Very few bow hunters up there.

That could be the key to success. We will find out.

I didn't get it done either, but I certainly had my chances to shoot a number of bucks under 3.5. I bought my firearm license today at 8:15 in Fleet Supply. They opened at 8 and had sold a bunch of licenses already. I drove past 2 more times during the day and they were packed both times.

I am not sure of your question, but the best rifle hunting occurs if there has been no bow hunting on the property. So I bow hunt land where I won’t rifle hunt at all or not for a few days. I also like to spend time where I first began hunting with my Dad, Mom, aunt, uncle, and Grandpas. Just for memories and more than likely won’t shoot a deer as I much prefer to kill them with a rifle.

Ok saving it for rifle. I get it. I was thinking you meant that bow hunting would make deer nocturnal?

No wonder you are not as high on bow hunting Art, you are not sitting in the prime spots?

Had a fork eating alongside a doe and fawn tonight, then later had a spike bird dogging another doe. Not sure what happened to the nicer bucks, but I haven't seen anything over 1.5 for a few days now.

No wonder you are not as high on bow hunting Art, you are not sitting in the prime spots? I did hunt two of the prime spots up north. Not here at home. That is part of the key. Leave them alone.

I just caught up on this thread. Great to hear how good the action has been for some of you guys in MN!! And seeing some older deer too. If every hunter experienced good rut hunting there be overwhelming support for pushing gun season back.
