removing the APRs and allowing multiple bucks killed here will drop the buck age down a notch. I think allowing rifles would drop it one more notch and that is pretty dissappointing. That's entirely possible, but when push comes to shove....isn't it still the deer hunters' fault? Just because the DNR says we can do something, it doesn't mean we have to. I'm guessing around here, there will be quite a few guys who still choose to use their shotguns. "Fun" money isn't a commodity that many folks around here have in ample supply. They already own a shotgun, it has killed deer in the past, it will in the future. Just like shooting more than one buck in SE MN. If hunters don't want to do it...don't do it. Deer hunters have all the power in this situation. Too bad most don't realize it. You are right- hunters still pull the trigger. Voluntary restraint has never worked too well in most areas, so I'm fairly sure how this will go.

I think this all boils down to most MN hunters having never experienced high quality deer hunting. When I started, I never did. Seeing a deer was all the talk at church and school. Getting a deer made you a big deal. Everyone in town knew who drew a doe tag. That was the baseline I started at.
When I started hunting Jackson county MN with my uncle, we saw lots of deer and had lots of tags. Also had lots of old farmers in the group that didn't want to get outta the truck, so they told me, "If you get a shot at one (I already shot mine) you take it and use my tag." The prospect of shooting 2-3 deer in a weekend made me feel like a hall of famer. They were all heaping praise on me for my ability to shoot and chase down wounded deer on foot.
I'd be hard pressed to believe, if any guy could only take one deer and he saw with absolute regularity, giant bucks, like the ones that roam SD, those brown down behaviors would change quickly.
Most of MN is in a state of "This is as good as it's gonna get... 'BANG'" condition.

I don't see MN ever becoming one of those states with a majority of deer hunters who are interested in passing bucks so they can get bigger.

Do hunters pass bucks to let them get bigger, or do the refuse to shoot smaller bucks because the neighborhood has bigger bucks available?

I think the part many of us on here or others who may think similarly to us are missing is that an awful lot of outdoors people (a majority?) don't much care if they shoot a big buck or catch 16" walleyes. Many have very little time to dedicate to hunting or fishing. Many don't really enjoy it all that much. Many just want to get it over with, but want to be able to tell their citidiot friends that they "shot a buck" or caught "some walleyes for supper"
Most of us on here or on other "deer forums" are overly concerned with shooting what we consider big bucks. I think we are in the minority.

When 85% of the deer hunters MN will shoot a doe because they can I would agree with you 85%. Or more. Small buck shaming is a different cat where there are lots of good bucks around. In MN small buck shaming really gets the snowflakes fired up. When I hunt out west for whitetails nobody shoots does. How many mule deer moms get shot (by hunters not from MN, MI, PA, NY etc)

I’ve often wondered why some guys catch and release walleyes, then shoot the first deer they see?

She usually emails me back. My buddies bombard her with concerns. She has emailed all of them back. Sucky job really. “Hi I’m Barb I manage deer in the best deer habitat state in the Midwest , but it’s actually one of the worst for hunting “
