I scored a stick of this from a guy in Maine. He says it's almost certainly the first stick sent west of the Mississippi. I also am getting a stick of Fletcher Sweet from him, from what may be the only remaining "mother tree". Same place Fedco got their scions previously. I guess the tree is ancient and doesn't throw much for growth/scions. I had a Fletcher grafted here, but it got gopher damage and I want another to be sure I have the variety. I had a stick ordered from TOC, but they couldn't provide it this year. I sent him sticks from 3 of my wild trees in return.

It's from southern Maine, so hardiness is an unknown.

This was an interesting comment from a discussion on dolgo rootstock on a Facebook scion exchange group. The guy who posted this is a knowledgeable guy. That is the first thing I can remember about drought resistance. I wish I had Kerr and centennial on dolgo to see if they would grow a bigger tree than on B118. Not letting them fruit as young and pruning for higher growth might have helped these trees on B118. I wonder if the Lee described in the post is the guy who bred Lee 37 which is one young tree I have.

I planted a dozen or so dolgo seedlings about 4 years ago and I'm considering top working a few of those trees into some other varieties.
I really like my grafted dolgo for both eating and for deer food, but I'm not sure I really need a dozen dolgo seedlings. the dolgo seedlings are nice looking trees so they could be nice top working candidates.

I only have two dolgo seedlings, both planted in 2015 as failed grafts. I just let them grow. One produced a load of fruit (small, sour) last year. It has very nice horizontal branch structure, so that's going to become another Frankentree. The other seedling is less than half the size of the first. It too appears to have nice branch structure. I'll let it go until it fruits before deciding whether to topwork it or not. Unlike you guys, I don't much care for grafted Dolgo fruit. Neither does my wife.

I received some Norkent scion, thanks Ben.
One of the guys up in Canada had Norkent survive -54 Centigrade and produce fruit the next summer. That sounds like one tough bird and good for the north country.

Ive never had any winter damage on that variety and it has been a very large tree on antonovka rootstock. I have high hopes for the scion you and stu sent me this year as well.
