Deer are acting very weird right now. If they move, cautious, sometimes walking very slow, other times trotting right to the middle of the food source. Making it tough to get anything with 30 yards. Very normal behavior in mn that I have seen.

Does you name get added to a public access list when you get a landowner tag? Some reason I thought I heard that. Yes it does. That’s why many hunters don’t get the tag. But hunters have to ask permission before they can hunt. And you can turn them down if you already have enough hunters. Not sure of the exact wording but you don't have to give them permission. To me its a game changer, get that landowner permit, shoot an early doe for the freezer and still have your buck tag for later. This year we went to managed in zone 277 so we could shoot two deer so it didn't matter but in previous years it was sweet.

I have a friend who is a wildlife manager for US Fish and Wildlife and let’s just say we can’t talk about this subject since there is no reasoning with him. They feel everything should be back to grass with zero trees. No reasoning with them what so ever As an avid pheasant hunter, the cutting of every tree is one of my pet peeves. If every wildlife area, state or federal, had a 5 acre shelterbelt and a 5 acres of food plot, we'd have twice as many pheasants. And they'd still have plenty of acres for tweety birds and pollinators.

And they'd still have plenty of acres for tweety birds and pollinators. That was discussed at the deer management meetings a few years ago. It was a complete road block by the DNR. We no longer have wildlife biologists, but the truth is ecologists instead. We can’t even get clover on the firebreak trails on state wildlife management areas near where I live. They want nothing that will increase deer numbers in the non forested areas of Minnesota. I suspect suspression of pheasant numbers may be next as they aren’t native.

The way I understand it, you have to let one non relative person hunt your land. I don’t want my name on the list and will just buy a doe tag instead.

Minnesota could figure out a better landowner doe tag system. Maybe have a free one if you allow public hunting, and if you don’t want public hunting then you pay $10? For example

Just adds more logistics for the DNR to have to manage. Changing the current system is a pipedream.
