The Courthouse Crab is doing well. My tree should be near fruiting age. Midwest Deer Trees may have a few of these by spring. I know he gathered scion. Courthouse Crab number two isn’t too shabby either.

There's another one in that row (maybe 2 more trees east) that also has nice sized crabs.

Kerr Crab. Buckman Crab Seedling Crab from Grandma. no name dolgo (rootstock) seedling crab Golden Hornet. Big Dog crab is on lighter soil and started dropping early this summer with the drought. It started dropping heavily about October 25 or so. The last few weeks it has lost lots of apples. My wife walks around the yard and has been shaking the limbs as deer are cleaning up the fruit nightly. That explains the fruit loss.

My Franklin tree is still holding some fruit. The fruit itself isn’t too pretty, but the drop time is what I’m looking for.

The deer have been browsing what I have pruned and are feeding on the flowering crab apples as well.

That doe on the left is a total chunk. I bet she will be dropping twins in a couple months.

^^^under $24 a tree is a pretty good deal, at least if the trees are decent sized (which I'd expect from Gilby's)

^^^some of those buckthorn projectiles are pretty nasty. I've dug a number of them out over the years. They sure do fester up big time when you can't dig them out.
My wife grew up on a beef and row farm in southern MN. She has zero sympathy or reaction for getting impaled. "Suck it up buttercup"

Northern Spy is allegedly the best apple for apple pies/crumbles/whatever. The variety is also noted for being slow to bear, especially when grafted to standard rootstocks. I'd guess the Menard's trees are grafted to some kind of semi-dwarf rootstock, but that's purely a WAG. Northern Spy isn't noted as being super winter hardy, but it should be good to 4a.

I hope rootstock selections are hardy for where they sell trees. I don’t trust these big retailers with the hardiness issues. There are even differences between metro areas and rural in hardiness.
