40 years of cow poop in the pasture seems to make for fertile soil. Picked these the other day. Mrs Kooch put them in soup tonight. I wasn’t there to eat it. She says it wa great.

I ran out to my spot that I planted four plots in yesterday during the day to hang a cam and check some others. Bucks haven’t seemed to hang here until near the end of October it seems the past few years so I haven’t been in much of a hurry to get things done out there. I think that might coincide with a guy that started bear hunting it at that same time. He shot a 200 pounder last week, so now without him out there they might start coming back. The biggest of the three plots. Weak clover on the left next to the woods, brassica/rye on the right. Fairly good spacing for the brassica’s if the volunteer rye didn’t come so thick Plot 2- too thick Plot 3- clover to the left, brassica/rye to the right. Too thick with rye I didn’t venture to the other skinny plot because it’s in the heart of the property. Some day I need to post an arial of this place and get some ideas from you guys.

Pics are from 9/16, but I forgot to post them on this thread. New plot addition this year working out well so far.
I like the design of that plot.

There was already a couple scrapes opening up around the edge of the island. I’m thinking a few apple trees around perimeter of the plot might be a future add as well.

First time I’ll be heading into a Nov with this quality of food still available. Usually the brassica plot is down to dirt by end of Oct.

I still have corn in the 1 acre and the 3 acre corn plot. Last year, the 1 acre plot was cleaned out by now.

that corn should keep the neighborhood deer in good shape this winter.

that corn should keep the neighborhood deer in good shape this winter. There is a quarter section of standing corn that is 1/2 mile west of me. I suspect there are quite a few deer over there instead of on my small plots.

I still have corn in the 1 acre and the 3 acre corn plot. Last year, the 1 acre plot was cleaned out by now. Deer and the feathered rats are working the one acre plot. Those rats are everywhere and not a pheasant back there. I did walk part of the edge of the sanctuary and saw a fair buck and a doe and fawn. And more rats.
