Does anyone just hunt the fringes during the first few days of firearms season? I like to do so, but if I get a cold front or the right wind, there are two stands I can’t resist going to. I have only hunted the edges of this property with any weapon the last 5 or 6 years.

Not one deer dead on the road all the way through Iowa that I have seen yet. And not one live deer standing anywhere along the road as well. Sure does not look like the rut is on yet.

Just bumped a decent buck a couple hundred yards from the house on my way back from walking. It would have been about a 50 yard shot from one of my box blinds. Pretty sure it was the same 8 or 9 pointer we saw harassing does west of the house last evening. Had a doe and fawns eating clover in the houseplot when I got inside. The last two days there's been more deer movement around here than the previous ten days - 2 weeks combined.

A coworker in Virginia doesn’t hunt until he sees a spike in road kill. I’m still at home even though I’m supposed to be on vacation. I have some dad stuff to do that I could delay. Work is also very busy. I’m choosing work and stuff with my daughter over 70+ degree temps. I don’t remember the last time I didn’t take off the first days of November. I’ll hunt this weekend and some early next week. My big push will be 18th thru thanksgiving this year. I’m betting on better weather then.

There were two fawns out in the combined corn field. 30 yards from the road and watching the cars go by. I think their mom was shot during the antlerless season. A couple were killed.
