Sounds like a good plan to me I already changed my planš Just got back from spreading seed with hopes of rain tonight. Will come back and spray cleth in morning. Mow after that how long does it take before the grass starts to die off with cleth? Can you mow same day and get a decent kill?

Not sure on mowing but grass of any height does not look dead for quite a while after spraying with cleth. Could be a couple weeks or more before it looks totally dead. With mature grass, you might not get a good kill at all.

I'm not going to wait that long to mow, hoping the cleth will get in the roots sooner. I'd like to mow to get some thatch for the newly planted seeds along with mowing some weeds that won't get taken out by the Cleth.

IME, cleth takes a full two weeks before you see "dead" grass. I believe the chemical impact is seen before then, but how soon a person could mow after spraying without losing the chemical impact I do not know. As previously stated ^^^ cleth doesn't do all that well on mature perennial grasses. I've hit some clumps/spots of RCG with 16 oz./acre cleth + NIS the last two springs at green up. The stuff looks dead until about the end of June/early July. Then it comes back. The cleth does keep it from spreading and/or setting seed but it does not kill it. I think I'll need to hit those spots with gly in late summer/early fall if I ever want to totally kill the RCG.
On the other hand, cleth does do a good job of killing summer/fall annual grasses like fall panicum...even when 10-12" tall.

Went up yesterday with seed in hand and the intentions to toss in the fall plots. It was so damn hot and dry when I got there I talked myself out of it. Zero rain in the forecast so I decided to wait for the weekend. They got an 1.20ā up there today. WTH. Glad Iām not trying to make a living off this like the rest of my family.
They canāt predict a day in advance, but supposed to believe them on the doomsday predictions

Well, I am doing my seeding this weekend, good forecast or not. I am getting it done, and if it doesnt rain at some point, I will bitch. So sick of forecasts. We had under 10% chance of rain for today when i looked this morning..... It fucking poured tonight! Just south of us was a HUGE cell of red.

Did you hit her pretty good last night? Seems like southwest of 94 in general hooked some pretty good rains. Yessir, FarmLogs had me at 1.5" and my rain gauge had over 2.5". Regardless of what the actual amount was I'm happy with it. Went out and mowed two plots yesterday after planting 4 days previous. Had a pretty damn good germination rate after only 4 days. Curious to see what these plots look like after the cleth kicks in. One of my plots that I don't normally hunt is next to a row of red oaks that are absolutely loaded with acorns. I did put a blind on this plot this year to hunt with a west wind if needed. Curious to see how those acorns draw deer this year.

Still bummed I didnāt time the rains right, but thatās the way it goes. If what I spread down doesnāt take, at least Iāve got a good base of clover coming through where I mowed. There was decent moisture still where, I tilled and spread brassicas. Hope for the best.

Sunday was to be my day to finish planting but last minute help needed by my parents put an end to that. Hoping I can get it done an evening or 2 this week before forecasted rain this weekend. My field has been sprayed dead for going on 3 weeks now and want to get some good living roots before the weeds get a bigger head start!

Well, I guess I got lucky with last nights rains! I went out on Saturday and planted my 5 plots across 2 of my spots. With the baby coming (within hours), I was able to sneak away and get them done. Just did a mix of ptt/raddish/rape. Two of them went into mature standing rye(not ideal but it is what it is) and two went into semi roughed up failed buckwheat (didnāt get pics of those). They should pop with the 1/4ā rain and looks like I should go buy some fert for them now, ha. The other two rye plots definitely werenāt this thick, Iām a little worried this one might make it tough for the brassica to pop through! The pipe wired to the front of my harrow worked better than I thought it would to lay the rye down.

I figure this weekend is the last possible chance to get any bulb development on brassicas by fall, so I'm going to go spray a couple spots on my place and about a 1/3 acre strip on the neighbor's. I'll throw down some seed later today or early tomorrow and be done with it. If we finally get a change in the weather and we actually start getting some rain before Labor Day, I'll spray the neighbor's 1+acre plot and throw down rye and oats. Maybe some oats on a few spots on my place too.
Years like this one make me question the entire idea of annual plots.

Glad I stopped planting corn and beans. Way too many hours invested, and limited years the weather cooperates.

I've never bothered with summer crops. Seems like a waste when it's all around anyways. I just stick to perennial clover and the LCish rotation.
