My sugar beets that I planted Memorial weekend are growing and should make some food for deer. Last night when we getting my buck out, we cut thru the plot with the sugar beets. Some of the sugar beets are the size of a musk melon. Going to be lots of food for the deer this winter.

I had some success with my broadcast turnips in open areas in the corn. So far, the deer are not real impressed with the turnips.

Lots of whole turnips still on the ground. Usually wiped out by early Nov. That should help the winter food supply a little bit.

Here is an old man’s deer stand. Hobble across the yard, through a windbreak, and crawl in the stand. the last few years, we kill 80% of our deer here. We also spend most of season there.

Off the wall question. Do deer eat potatoes?

Off the wall question. Do deer eat potatoes? Not much that I can see. I can remember my uncle, who lived up in the north country, putting salt on potato peelings and hoping the deer would eat them. About 25 years ago, there were excess potatoes available and dairymen would mix them in a TMR. TMR is a total mixed ration of a complete feed for the cattle. The cattle would dig down for the potatoes and eat them first. I don’t understand why deer are not so fond of them.

This buck was shot in Maine back in the 60s I believe. Shot him over leftover potatoes. I would assume if the deer have nothing else to eat, they will eat potatoes.

They r in the potato fields by dads house a lot and large numbers.
Now if there was a corn field next to a potato field it would be interesting if they would just eat corn. I tossed out potatoes at home last year, and they devoured them.

The boys planted 5 acres of Radish in Missouri. Deer are killing it through the snow. I know where I am going shed hunting.
