My buddy is up nw of Duluth hunting a mile back on state land. No trail to his stand, uses gps and a compass to get to it. Had a guy walk right by him yesterday at 9am. He said in 10 years of hunting that spot he has never seen a human. Guess times are changing. That’s a long haul in and out and sounds exhausting! If I was up by Duluth I’d rather just walk 50 feet into Castle Danger Brewery ! But I understand the challenge aspect ! If you seen some of the huge swamp donkeys he has shot over the last 10 years in there, you would know why he goes in there.

I just let the same buck from yesterday walk away again. Had an extended look at him at 35 yards. I'm not convinced it's the same buck as my trailcam pic now. Definitely a mainframe 10 with some stickers and thick spots/mass on the beams. Likely goes 130ish. I should probably have dumped him where he stood. Would have been about 30 yards from where the buck I shot 2 years ago dropped

My motto is, “If you can’t decide whether to shoot or not, you made the right decision by not shooting “

My motto is, “If you can’t decide whether to shoot or not, you made the right decision by not shooting “ yup. It was a slam dunk shot. If you shoot them when they're 120-135 they'll never make it to 150. This buck isn't old, I'm guessing 3.5. If he was older I likely would have dropped him. He has serious potential

My motto is, “If you can’t decide whether to shoot or not, you made the right decision by not shooting “ Same motto here…if you need to add up inches to see if he is big enough then he isn’t. If you swear when he comes out he is a shooter.

I'm not sure if I've passed a buck like this one previously. Maybe one time.

I drove around my neighborhood mile loop and saw 12 trucks of hunters out this morning. Lots of people drive out and park in areas that will scare half the deer away before they even get to stand. This pressure should push some deer into my thick logged out woods. I’m hoping my son or my dad will get a crack at one later this week.

My neighbor called me on the way home yesterday. Guess there was some Yahoo stopped on the road in front of my place, looking at a fawn on my west field.
The guy drove down the road, then turned back around when my neighbor passed him. When I got home 10 minutes later, the guy was gone, and the fawn was still out there.
I wonder if no one had driven by if that dude would have popped that fawn. I need to plant a spruce screen asap. Hopefully this spring my neighbor and I can get those pines transplanted.

My first few years here it was clear that people were in the habit of road hunting the area. I took to parking the atv and one pick up truck at my access points. I wanted people to at least think there may be somebody around watching. I have seen far fewer morons road hunting the last few 7 or 8 years now.

My north neighbors used to drive their atvs right to their stands. They've started getting smarter the last few years, unfortunately...

A roadside visual screen is huge. I prefer a couple rows with at least 2 different species in case a new disease pops up that kills one tree type.

We had issues with road hunters we in fact have a bullet hole through one of our box stands to prove it. Trees are planted now but not growing fast enough. Some people have a lot of balls property owner across the road is a state trooper too.

Good thing is it's only about 35 yards I need to block so it won't take a ton of trees to make the blockade.

I thought about parking the diesel with the flatbed out there but after this weekend it'll slow down to a crawl with hunters.

We watched the Vikes' game at the Legion today. The local consensus appeared to be that deer were few and far between.
I didn't have it in me to tell folks I saw at least 10 deer from sun up to 9:30 this morning, including one pretty nice buck.
