Took a drive at 9:00 am on Sunday. Holy vehicles. Places I'd expect to see 2 there would 6. Over and over. And didn't hear many shots in the morning or later that day. Everyone I had talked to reported seeing way more vehicles than normal on the public land I was on throughout the week. Got to think the nice weather got more people out there. Myself and the people I hunt with saw way less deer than normal in our zone 2/week 1 hunting. Deer sign in the woods was also way less. Going to try hunting again in zone 1 later this week.

I have no idea about MN as a whole, but the deer herd in my little chunk of the world is definitely smaller than it was the previous 3-4 years. The number of bucks 2.5 or older this year was also definitely down. That makes sense since the north neighbors shot at least 4 bucks 2.5 or older last year and I think they got 2 this year. You can't keep whacking all the 2.5s if you ever want to see/shoot 3.5s or older. Maybe those guys will figure that out some year. I did part of my post season walk through and found another winter kill that I missed in the spring. Winter hurt us except in a few pockets.

Mn DNR says deer harvest was only down 7% as of this time last year.
Edit: I think some of that down yield is practiced trigger restraint.
